We are looking for (vertical) blinds for our new house. Which is a reputable company to go with? We made an appointment with Hillary's but they are not forthcoming on prices and expect the salesman to hit us with a heavy price. An alternative is to get it ourselves but dont trust DIY fitting! Any advice or recommendations gratefully received

Give hillarys a go. I had them round last week and also expected the hard sell but the guy was really nice and the quote less than half we got quoted by Howard's blinds. I thought they were quite cheap, they quoted £360 for four roman blinds, one of which is very large for a picture window and one of the others has blackout lining.
We have non-standard size windows so off-the-shelf blinds won't fit.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I used Hillarys blinds too, was about £500 for wooden blinds in the whole house, was very impressed with their service and quality.0

We found Hilary's to be very good quality, but bear in mind not to buy at the consultation appointment. We did this, and paid the price quoted, my mother in law didn't make an instant decision and was called a week later offering a 30 percent discount.0

I ordered blinds from Web Blinds which are part of Hillarys but cheaper and was very happy. I had someone fit them as I'd be useless.

I'm amazed that people are recommending Hillarys Blinds. You must have been lucky!
We had a truly awful experience with them. They fitted blinds on 2 bay windows. The blackout blinds had 2 inch gaps down the sides thus defeating the whole blackout idea. The salesmen insisted he told me there would be gaps -like i would've ordered if that had been the case.
The second bay had wooden blinds.I could've done a better job myself. In the end I found out the fitter was doing it with minimal training as a 2nd job. He hoofed it. It took a year of complaints and dealing with the worse customer service ever experienced, but we got the charge reduced by £1000.
Like most shocking companies, when it's straight-forward you may get away with it but if anything goes wrong you are screwed.

I too would vote for Hillary's. Got four blinds off them last year, as part of a 'mulit blind' offer - the web site made no mention of the offer. I'm assuming it's something the sales person has in reserve to 'suck you in'.
Well, it worked on me! Two of the windows are 7'+ wide and the other two are not small. Got the lot for a little over £370. I thought it was going to be at least double that price.
Slaes guy was great, not pushy at all - nothing like the double glazing guy that came round 18mths ago, oh my word, I could not push him out of the house!! He kept on calling his 'boss' to see if he could get me a better deal, if I signed that day. He did, I didn't!
Hillery's in my experience are nothing like the 'pushy sales staff' that can be associated with other home sales companys.

Have you had a look to see if their is a local independent blind shop that offers a fitting service. I have just had some blinds fitted by a local shop to me, they came out with samples, measured the windows. Then just shortof 3 weeks later they came back and fitted blinds.
Apart from supporting a local business, I find as it often family owned or the actual owner himself coming out you tend to get a better service as they will be more interested in keeping a good reputation in the local area.If my posts have random wrong words, please blame the damn autocorrect not me0 -
