you can already get the persons name, address etc easily from Ebay, (request contact details button) and the seller can get yours....

Can someone tell me where the 'request contact details' button is?

    Thanks

Click on the advanced search and there is an option in the left hand menu.

Or click here for a direct link: http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQtZvbQQsofindtypeZ9

cash and a postal order are the only really safe ways of accepting payment. all the others have a possible problem.

but dont get paranoid, ive taken cheques many many times over my woking life and had very very few problems. esp for small amounts.

its really annoying to discover that a bank can claw back payment after a cheque clears though. that should not be allowed.
    Get some gorm.
  • My OH and I have both paid by cheque and taken cheques as payment many times with no problems whatsover.

Actually I'm quite amazed since my first eBay sale was an old laptop, I had no idea about the existence of all the scams, they paid by cheque and it was all fine!

Any payment method, except possibly online bank transfers can be scammed. The trick is to take all reasonable precautions to protect yourself.

Nothing is safe in this world, as clever as any system is there is always someone cleverer trying to crack it.

I guess you've never had a bank transfer :) Quick, safe, free :j
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
  • I've never had a problem accepting a cheque but always ask the buyer to send it by a signed for service as so many problems can come up when a cheque doesn't arrive, etc.
  • I personally would never accept a paper cheque, too risky, at least if he want to pay with a cheque he can do so with Paypal, but wait until this Paypal e-check was cleared by Paypal, never send goods before that happended or you loose money and merchandise.
Ask him to pay using a Paypals e-check.
