Double yellow lines apply across the width of the carriageway and pavement - from property boundary to property boundary.

That includes the pavement and can include a different coloured pavement area which you may think is private land (when it's not). CEOs can issue PCNs on such pavements, for a contravention of the double yellow on the road:

Dr Dawood's lost fight against parking tickets on 'his' pavement

That's not to say you can't appeal and could win in the end - most people actually do win at adjudication. If you are up for the fight then post a pic of your PCN in a new topic on pepipoo (both sides of the PCN, look at other threads first to get the gist):

You need to read their FAQs 'how to post pictures'.

I have not done it myself but basically you host the pic on imageshack and then post the pic directly in your post (not as an attachment).

Thanks for all the help and advice, just to let you know that my letter of appeal was accepted and that my fine was cancelled with no further action being taken

    Thanks once again The Shadow

Nice one! I was going to make the interesting legal observation of whether the PCN was valid if affixed in such a way that the tape defaced all the necessary details, but I won't need to now!
