Recalling a payment

Hi I am looking for some advice
Long story short a company who owes us money has paid the amount into someone else's bank account. They have told me that they now need to recall the money before they can pay it into my account.
Does anyone know how long it takes to recall a payment? I would just like to know how long it is likely I will have to wait for the money.
Thanking you in advance for your advice

If the other account is active, then it could take anything between days and weeks, as it depends on the account holder authorising the payment.0

Hi Gromitt thank you for your reply
The other account is active
Does that mean that the account holder could refuse when they try to recall the payment?Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -
If you provided the correct details for the payment and they made the error I do not see why you should wait.

Threaten to add interest to the payment.
They are trying to say I provided them with the wrong details but I know that I didn't give them any details. I've just been assuming they would send me a cheque.
The account details are nothing like mine so they can't claim They got a digit wrong eitherGoals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -

But the company made the mistake, not you, so you shouldn't have to stand out of it. You need to demand payment and ignore any excuses. For all we know, they could be just saying they have done this to fob you off. Companies owning other companies money typically have a book full of excuses like this. You'll need to keep pestering them until it is easier for them to just pay the invoice or whatever it is.0 -

Sound fishy to me. How have they managed to send money to your account if they didnt have any details of how to do it?
Looks like they are stalling for time in payng you what you are owed. I'd ask them how they got your details and then tell them to pay up!!!!0 -

How can you possibly know this? They are trying to say I provided them with the wrong details but I know that I didn't give them any details. I've just been assuming they would send me a cheque.
How can a payment have been sent if you never provided any details. The account details are nothing like mine so they can't claim They got a digit wrong either
either what? end? 'they got a digit wrong either end' and 'the account details are nothing like mine' doesn't add up'.0 -
"The account details are nothing like mine, so they can't claim they 'got a digit wrong', either."
Punctuation can help, sometimes...0 -

That is part of the 'long story short' bit that I wrote in the original post. I know who's account it has been paid into and before anyone comments on this no that person would not give us the money without making us jump through hoops to get it.

Sorry that was bad grammar. I deleted some of the text I had already written and autocorrect put a capital T on they. Sorry I didn't notice that.
Thank you to dtaylor84 for clarifying it for me.Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -
Sorry about the misunderstanding there. I see now.
But the fact that you recognise the other account makes things a little more complicated as I suspect that this person is involved in some way and possibly that you may be in dispute with this person as to who should receive this money ... ?0
