Easyjet refunds.....Air Passenger Duty ( APD )

Options
Hi! I am probably going to cancel a return flight I had planned with Easyjet. Their refund policy ( actually non-refund ) is pretty severe re non refund of things like Speedy Boarding and Baggage in hold even though this wont happen. However I understand that it should be possible to claim back the APD.

Firstly how can I find out how much it is for each leg of the journey? Secondly I seem to remember someone saying that you can't reclaim by cancelling before the flight happens but should just not turn up and then reclaim it. This doesn't seem to make sense as I would have thought Easyjet would be better off knowing in advance of cancellation so they might re-sell the seat?

Anyone have any experience of these?

APD on departures to Europe is £13 from April 1st, so not much to look forward to. Their booking conditions confirm you are entitled to a refund less 'a reasonable charge' so I wouldn't expect a great deal back. My advice would be to cancel in advance, unless you can find someone to travel instead as easyjet do allow name changes, for a fee!

If you cancel the flight it will cost you £30 per flight so I dont see you getting much money back unless it was an expensive flight i.e. £10 flight with £13 APD means you would get nothing.

Its not just the UK APD thats refundable most taxes fees and charges with the exception of the airlines fuel and security (YQ and YR) can be refunded and include all countries your flying from in the case of a return ticket.
Still might not amount to the fee you will get charged for the pleasure though but worth checking.

Finding what the countries are charging you would mean looking at the fare breakdown on the ticket and looking for 2 letter codes such as GB UB FR etc etc.

It would be better to cancel rather than no show in my opinion, no shows can attract charges on some airlines.

This has probably been posted elsewhere, but just in case...

A Which? news article which I can't post a link to lists some airlines' admin fees for refunding APD as of April 2013. Easyjet charge nothing.

Do a Google search for "which apd refund" without the quotes and the 2nd result should be the news article from 5th April 2013.
