Travel lodge Brighton vent/warning

My one and only stay was at Slough TL. Communal areas were ok, what you'd expect really, room though was grubby and had an odd feel to it, couldn't put our finger on it, was just weird. No hot water and then we discovered thar our family room on the 3rd floor had a broken window. It swung open like a big door and wouldn't shut. The 2nd room they gave us was better, still dirty but felt fine and a safe window! On the plus side the beds were really comfy and the breakfast was nice and we did get a refund, but nonetheless would never stay with TL again. I've had similar rubbish experiences with Premier Inn and won't use them. Etap however are great. Very basic but very clean and even cheaper than TL & PI.
The Brighton one I would imagine is a dive, nothing but stag & hen hell I expect. You should have at least looked at the room then at least could have tried to get a refund if you didn't like it then.Clean credit file:12 mthsCar loan: FREE! :jTHE PLAN: 1.Pay off debt £8808.42(£3254.45, £1570.32, £2698.33, £0:dance:, £1000, £285.32) 2.Save monthly for Christmas/insurance etc £150 per month 3.Save for emergencies /£1500 4.Save for our B&B £????depends which one takes our fancy0 -
The one on West St isn't too bad. Then again, I only ever used to stay there when there was promotional rates on as it was cheaper than commuting!
It is grubby, unwelcoming, expensive for what it is, unless you have an offer and not a patch on the Premier Inn a couple of hundred yards away. It has a seafront location so you can be kept awake by the club just by it oh and if at breakfast(extra) they run out of anything you only have to wait until the next day.0 -
I cant imagine getting a good nights sleep in the west st one considering that street is mainly lined with bars and clubs and oceana is a stones throw away. I think its target market is probably young people wanting a night out in brighton.0

Me & my mum had the misfortune to stay for 1 night there last year. The few people in the bar/restaurant looked like they'd lost the will to live.
The room was tatty, and so uninviting and weirdly huge, oh and it was like staying on an industrial park!A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
I stayed in this one, room was good/clean and loads of clean fluffy towels but communal areas grim - even had dried vomit in the lift shaft - as I checked out my local MP was checking in!You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0

oh- it hasn't improved since 2004 then!
our charity booked 16 rooms for families travelling to a function - NEVER again - the staff were abysmal and a petite older lady who was in the "restaurant" was so rude that she actually left me speechless
the rooms weren't much better than the comunal areas - 5 families in our party we given keys to the rooms - which had not been cleared from the previous nights occupants - vomit, filthy sheets, and we won't even mention the toilet
but according to "housekeeping" they had all be cleaned and checked - don't know who by, but I hope they've had their eyesight checked since!0 -
I work for a holiday inn as a receptionist and regularly check trip advisor for reviews on not just our hotel but the other ones near by. The ones for the Travelodge in Brentwood well I beg of you to read them yourself. They have one 5* rating which judging by the rest I feel may have been posted by a member of staff. The travelodge which is a very short walk from us has a glass screen between the receptionist and the guest. I think that says it all really. Travelodge just don't seem to care and rely on drunk teens staying. I would be embarrassed to say I worked for them. Why does cling film always stick to itself but never what you want it too???0

I've certainly managed it
I am pretty darned far from the target clientele of that part of town too, but its only a short walk to work from there. Far better than spending an hour & half on the train!Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0 -

I'd be embarassed to work with someone who took potshots at competitors-it's very unprofessional. Why not tell people what Holiday Inn do well instead of just saying "Well we're better than TL" (I'm an ex travel industry professional myself btw)
With TL it's all down to location . I stayed at the central Croydon one a couple of weeks ago. It was midweek and it's not located near clubs. It was clean, centrally located (actually ideal for what we wanted location wise) and the staff were lovely-smiley and chirpy but still professional. Room was basic but in excellent condition and a bargain at £20.
This month I'm going to Peterborough-having checked reviews and locations -the Peterborough one is NOT suitable as it's right by the clubs and noisy so we've booked into Premier for a whole £3 more. You simply need to do your research -not all chains are the same and within each chain different locations have their pros and cons.
Both of these are fine for one night stops -if I want something nicer for a longer stay I use Marriott.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Ummmm I'm not taking pot shots no business ever looks at their competition to see how they grade up against you no? We are one of 3 different chains of hotel very close by to one and other and given the choice will happily send people to the premier inn which is just as close as the travelodge if we can't accommodate then but reviews speak for themselves. Ok so they may not have posted their 5 star review themselves but at the same time I also find it hard to believe that a hotel who with all of its other reviews talks about the distinct lack of cleanliness then one that says wow the hotel was amazing is a bit suspect. Why does cling film always stick to itself but never what you want it too???0
