Post office gave me Special delivery labels...

My DH was in yesterday posting loads of things for me. The woman in the post office gave him a roll of Special Delivery stickers, the ones that they scan and stick on the parcels. I know I'm being a bit thick...... but how does that work exactly??

She told him that I just need to add stamps to my item plus one of those special delivery stickers and stick it in the postbox. All makes sense. Does this mean that when it gets picked up and taken to the sorting office, they will seperate it into Special Delivery mail??

I thought you paid extra for special delivery?? So how many extra stamps am I supposed to put onto a package?? I honestly don't think it makes sense at all, but maybe someone can shed some light on it?!?

I cannot possibly see why the numpty PO clerk gave out Special Delivery stickers.
The only way this service works is to pay the Special Delivery fee,put on the sticker but you will STILL have to take the item to the PO to be scanned.
By just putting the sticker on the item and putting it in a post box will do nothing,it will just be sent by the class of postage you have paid.
Special delivery is seperated from all 'normal' post.(i think!)

Well I get a bunch of RD and SD labels every so often.
So I parcel up my item, add the label, take it to the PO and it cuts down on the time spent at the counter.
So there is a benefit that way into having labels in advance.

It does n't take that much time to put on a self adhesive sticker!

Perhaps they are special labels for special people? ;)

I get that it shaves a few seconds off, but you still have to queue at the post office? Not sure why the woman said to affix stamps and put into the post box lol x

That might be why. They prefer people with lots of items to pay in advance where possible, then they can just scan in each one. If they took in lots of items and posted them special delivery then the PO probably assumed they were business items.

You can pay for Special Delivery using online postage but there is a warning saying to take it to a Post Office.

That could be the reason, although only one of 15 items were special delivery, the rest were just second class.

So, I can stick one of these SD stickers onto my package, update it and pay for it on the RM website, but still need to take it to the PO to get it scanned and for them to post it?

    That makes more sense :T

Well maybe I feel it saves enough time to be worth my while, and it's much easier all round when everything is already labelled in my view :p

what a load of complete and utter tut, sorry but you couldn't be further from the truth. If you pay at the counter then your local post office gets a cut, if you pay in advance they do all of the work and don't get a penny for it.
