The Great "Milk and More" rip off?

OK, so having a milkman is not the cheapest way of having one's daily pinta, however, I like the service and think it's important to keep these useful local services in business.

However... for many years I have had the milkman deliver my sparkling water, then last year I was aware that my bills had increased, although from the itemised bill, the figures looked correct.

Early last month I worked out that the reason for this increase was that the milkman was been charging me per bottle at 95p as opposed to the four-pack price of £3.45. As I usually have 16 bottles delivered at a time, usually every 2-3 weeks, this has added up. I found an old receipt from October last year with the 95p pricing, so I know this has been going on for some time.

I have contacted Dairy Crest every week for the last six weeks and asked them to rectify the error, and go back through their accounts (they hold a years' worth) and work out how much I have overpaid. I have told them I will not be paying my current bill until this is done. Whilst I dont know whether withholding payment is the right way forward, I'm unsure what else to do, the only problem now is that our milkman left his "end of financial year" note with the milk, saying he'd be grateful for the payment by Saturday 31st March.

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions please?

thank you xx

at the end of the day, it was up to you to check the bill every time you had a delivery.

also did the water for £3.45 acutally come in a pack? maybe they dont sell or do the 4 bottle offer, and now only sell singles?

I would say pay up, and if not happy with the prices, either return the item when it is being delivered or just dont order it..

sorry but you really should have been paying more attention to your bills...

I would suggest getting advice from local Trading Standards or if you get free legal advice through work/pension provider/insurance/union/association etc that you call and ask them about the legalities.

At a minimum you need to write to the head office with copies (not original) of your proof and asking for a credit to your account or refund.

there is a milk and more complaints thread - if a board guide moved yours over you'd be able to get advice from others who are having problems with them.
  • These companies know that not all people check their bills regularly, so they sneakily increase the prices/change the conditions, and by the time people notice it, it's too late.

I am very money-conscious and I'd probably notice when the bill is higher than it should be, but I can also understand when people don't check their bills each time and trust that everything will be fine.

So I'd agree that you should find out if you were charged the right price and try to get your money back if you haven't.
  • I used a code for £10 off for new customers and spent £9.98. Never ordered since.

Has that milkman ever given me my 2p back? Narp. :(

;) this was a tongue in cheek comment :p

Have YOU phoned them to find out why? Maybe that would be a good place to start

Milk and More is a disgrace. I often don't receive deliveries, then to find they've been added to my bill. Or, I get a replacement item, and find the price hasn't been altered to reflect this -always favouring Milk and More. I have phoned 3 times in the past few months asking for a Manager to ring me. What a surprise, no one has phoned. The market is there but Milk and More is just so badly run. it's a shame.
