I didnt want to wait any longer so I bought myself a Philips DVD player/Recorder model no 3380 and I am very happy with it . i bought it from Play.com for £114.00 including delivery which was at the time some £15.00 cheaper then other shops .
You can record onto dvd RW over and over again and you could record upto 6 hours on a disk or 1 hour at its very highest quality setting and it has a stack of options as well ie video plus etc , it sets up okay and records programes in very good quality , The only down side is the handset is a bit naf to use but it does have one touch record button .
It depends on a lot of things that are your preferences ie dvd disks are cheap and you can play the recordings on other DVD players or PC'S or you might like the idea of recording onto a hard drive then you should look more into other options .
I like it and Its tidy under the TV unit as I only have the sky box and the DVD recorder .You could check out Play.com to see if they still stock it ...Good Luck .0 -

Found the same Philips model on Amazon for £102.01 inc delivery, seems a good spec. see http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-DVDR-3380-DVD-Recorder/dp/B000FL78YK0 -
Thankyou to all of you!
I am liking the idea of recording to a Hard Disk....
What is the best way to record from Sky+ to DVD (this is the main reason for buying the DVD Recorder!! (Sky+ is full of Rainbow and Button Moon.....recorded by my daughter.....honest!!;) )Save the cheerleader........ Save the world........0 -
The "next-gen" battle is a long way off from affecting dvd recording.
At the moment there is only a limited amount of material available to buy and players are around £400-£600. No sign of recorders as far as i know.
You are more than safe enough to buy a dvd-recorder - if you already have sky+ then not much point in getting one with a hard-drive just to save certain things. If you don't have sky plus then getting one with a hard-drive would allow you to use it more a PVR as well.
As for which ones im not sure - personally i would stay away from ones which restrict you to using one type of disk.0 -
I would strongly recommend a Panasonic. Slightly more expensive but much more reliable and highly regarded. Also DVD-RAM allows for some cool editing features and more longevity for the discs.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

Thanks for this, do you recommend any models? or size of hard disk please?Save the cheerleader........ Save the world........0 -
panasonic is the one to buy. I bought one a year ago for £120 no hard !!!!!! but that don't matter. You can record up to 8 hours I think on re-writable disks and also use the faboulous dvd-ram format, re-recordable as well. With dvd-ram you can start recording a program, go and do something, then come back and watch the program being recorded from start, whilest it is still recording the rest of the program for you. How cool is that for a £120 dvd recorder.
