I started at Halewood originally on 14th February 2015.
A month after the new 5 year deal started.
This is the truth about manpower.
The 5 year deal is not 5 years. As if they lay you off for longer than 6 weeks your service and wages are reset.
Ive been laid off 3 times since i originally started and my longest stint was 22 months.
I've currently been back since beginning of August on a minimum 6 weeks contract.
The only good thing about JLR is the wage. Nothing else its like prison in there very strict and with being on manpower if your late, sick or get caught on your phone etc your straight out of the door the week after. Also if new lad started on manpower same time youve been brought in, hes classed as having the same length of service as someone thats been there 3 years as they reset your service. Union cannot represent agencies only jaguar employees so do not give them your money.
For some people leaving long term jobs DO NOT. It is only temporary work. And they use you and chuck you when they please.
Obviously different plants have different amounts of manpower workers but the security of the job is terrible.
Can't speak for Halewood, but I know plenty of manpower at CB and Solihull who started around the start of the 5 year deal who have continuous service and never been laid off.
Yes they are strict, they have a factory to run, if you're not there then you can't do your job and everyone knows the restriction on having your mobile out on section. Why would you?
All the new starters at ours know it is a short contract and have been told from the off, that unless they hear different then their last day is 22nd Dec0 -
Anyone starting at JLR its vital to be punctual and not ring in sick unless neccessary as they will sack you off.
No matter what they tell you in the interview regarding a contract don't believe them, this is a temping job only and is now correctly advertised as such. Temporary.
When i applied it was stated different but they didn't honour the commitment to me along with many many others so i guess theres been complaints and they have to advertise it correctly.
Richard all the new people in BIW are only here for 3 shift until Dec 22nd? What then?
Around 100 Manpower from my factory were let go in October 2016 and some have only just been brought back, starting on 70% again.
Would also concur with don't give the union your money, they don't care unless you have a JLR contract which ironically they voted away any chance of us getting. Waste of time and money for Manpower employees. You have no rights until you've worked somewhere for 2 years anyway and its only then after 2 yeas employment you can sue for unfair dismissal
ALso NEVER leave a permanent job for JLR unless it's the absolute pits.0 -
I was a month away from 90% wage and laid off for over 6 weeks so back to 70% and no attendance bonus.
Lads that started 11 months after me were moved about and stayed, soon to be going onto 90% themselves. I understand its temporary but was also told its last in first out when that is not the case. Theres no structure or actual thing they follow when laying off. Its like pick of the draw. Manpower always blame JLR and vise versa.
Union try get you to sign up on your initial induction day cannot represent manpower i also will never sign up after what Ive been through.
I stick the job as ive been told temporary contacts can potentially turn into permanent JLR contracts.
Manpower is the only way into JLR. Its meant to be 90% JLR staff and 10% manpower but its clearly not the case.
I just want to make people aware of the things they dont tell you as some people find it hard not to have a days sick/late in potentially 5yrs.0 -
In my eyes no one will ever be given a job at JLR on the production line ever again. They have a disposable workforce now, no reason to give it up. Cheers Unite.
Approx 3000 manpower on site which makes it 70/30 wayyy past 90/10 but conveniently the union say only 7000 of the 10000 are required so no one can have a job. Cheers Unite.0 -

No idea. Only way things would ever change is if 3000 ppl all cancelled there union fees at once. Unite will miss that 12k a week but wont happen.0 -

I suppose it depends where you are.
In my 5 years (at CB and Solihull) I haven't been anywhere which I wouldn't consider decent, in fact everywhere I've seen looks like a holiday camp compared to some of the places I've worked the last 30 years.
Expectations, I suppose. You are right about the pay, although it is much better than just decent.0 -

Doubt that very much, Unite has nearly 1.5 million members. 3000 members and 12k a week is a drop in the ocean to them0 -

True, a further indication of how little they give a toss about the members they proclaim to care about. More reason not to join up.0
