Ok i will be going to the vets tomorrow.

But Gizmo the 4 year old cat has a watery eye, noticed yesterday and hasn't got better today, now adamant i want him to see a vet..

He is fully immunised and not due until July/August for his next jabs.
Oh and i had a look earlier and he thinks giz might have a little sty but that doesn't explain the sneezing yesterday or today.

Gizmo isn't off his food or water

Hoping it isn't cat flu :(

Good luck at the vets. Might be something less sinister like a bit of pollen or grass up his nose - this can irritate the nasal lining and cause watery eyes. Or even a dental issue can cause these symptoms, as odd as it sounds.

He's sat on OH lap at the mo and he thinks he may have a temperature, but your not the first to suggest grass up the nose

Hope it's something simple. Poor kitty.

Frankie sneezes a lot at times, certain things must irritate his nose, when we have curry he always sniffs it then sneezes lots so must be the spices.

i admit that i did yesterday sprinkle cayenne pepper over an area that i didn't want him pooping..

but surly it wouldn't still effect him today?

Shouldn't do but when you take him to the vet if he rules all else out then do mention it as it might be a slight reaction to it.

    Update.

    Not long back from vets,

    Phew not cat flu :)

Poor gizzy has a severe case of conjunctivitis and a scratch on his lense, so glad i took him this morning, so he is on Fucithalmic eye ointment for 7 days and see how he is, if it gets worse then i am to take him back.

So giz is home and safe, just been fed and now slunked off for an afternoon of sulking.

Anyone got any advice to get the cream on his eye.

I need to give him some this morning, and i am alone, he went banana's yesterday when OH was here.

I held him, OH put the cream in, as we couldn't do it the other way around as, as soon as he saw the cream that was it.
he needs 1 every 12 hours.

not going to manage to towel trick on my own...

Do you think if i can quickly rub a bit on his eyelid as i walk past could do it, i am not sure, i mean how much would get on the eye.

There is no easy way sadly unless you have trained him from a kitten to acept this type of handling (Ollie will lay on his back between your legs whilst you clip his claws ... purring, lol)

I would sit on floor, bum on heels of feet, legs slightly apart, scruff him into the gap between your legs and apply ointment. Using this method means he will try and squirm backwards and obviously cant as he is backing into between your legs. I would also put pressure downwards so he cant 'spaz out' upwards as they tend to try and do.

Once done, let go, throw a treat on the floor next to him, walk away and forget it ever happened. Trying to sooth him will only make him feel worse towards you and you will feel guilty so walk away and catch up with him later for a cuddle and a treat :)

Maybe its us and the way we brought ours up but we just dont have this kind of trouble with our boys :o
    Ant.

I've managed to have a blob of cream on my finger when i saw him come in (clean hands of course)

give him his usual greeting 'hi Giz' he comes over for a quick fuss, quickly rubbed the cream on eye although his kept it closed, so i rubbed (gently) so hope when eye open and closes some will get on the lense.

went and got his treats and gave him some and walked away.

will leave him as i do every day to let him snooze somewhere, when he is hungry he will come and tell me,
