Hey Hey :D

I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with CBFSMS's VIP service?

They claim to charge 5p per outgoing text with replies to your phone: http://vip.cbfsms.com/

This is much better than the current 12p I'm paying currently. However I want it to look like I'm texting from the phone.

I'd appreciate feedback from anyone who is using it and their likes/dislikes about the service.

Cheers

Crabman :D

I used it for a couple of years with no problems at all. Very reliable. I only stopped using it when I got a mobile phone contract with lots of free minutes.

Also look at https://www.smsbug.com. You can send from your phone or from their website. Even cheaper than cbfsms but not quite so reliable in my experience.

Thanks BarGin - I think VIPSMS is the better looking option for now... I've never heard of the other site before but have used the free CBFSMS for a long time. 5p per text seems reasonable and the fact they can reply direct to my phone is also good.

I've posted in the discounts board in case there are any promotion codes lying around for the little box on the sign-up screen :o

    Thanks again

Also take a look at mobisms, vgsmail and vyke

The last is 2 cents each, sent from either a Java client in the phone (via wap/gprs), or from the website, and you can change the sender ID on the website version if you want (number confirmed by an sms to you)

Thanks redux  though on Vyke I can't find any option for texting so I'm a little weary of giving them my money! :o Will prob go for CBF :o

Have another look Crabman! It's there in Vyke I assure you! I assume that if you already have tried Vyke on your mobile that you must have paid at least USD10 for a credit, so don't waste it!

Yes it looks very much like Vyke is biased towards VoIP calling, and the other menu options might not be so obvious in the Java applet on the phone (the menu may present differently on different handsets), but the "Send SMS" menu option is there I assure you, and it works extremely well, and at 2 cents per text, plus fractional download charges, it would be rude not to persevere with it!

I have just started using it with my trusty Nokia 9500, and as a result, I can even send 2 cent International Vyke SMS via WiFi with that!

Remember that all these applications "spoof" your phone number and are indistinguishable from the "real thing" by the recipient....any replies arrive normally at your phone.

Bah, I'm using VIPSMS from CBFSMS now, it's easy to use and it wasn't worth the extra worrying and searching imo :o lazy crab me :D

Actually Crabman I will eat my words. I set up a Vyke account for my son with another ten quid and it was promptly locked "for security reasons - please contact us". I have contacted them three times via their website and it has been 5 days now with no reply. So my recommendation at the moment has to be "don't gamble with Vyke" (even though it is a slick application and works fine on my own account).

CBFSMS support seems pretty good - I had some problems with sending to a friends mobile so they rerouted all the messages to the mobile for me and replied to the email within a few hours. Seems very efficient if you ask me.
