the increase in prices (which i assume will also be lumped onto business mail and not just the three people in the country who still send personal letters) will make it even more expensive for HMRC to send me a new PAYE coding notice every other day, and then writing the next day to change it back to what it was before. i wonder how much costs would have to go up before they bothered to fix their computer system.0 -

Don't think stamps are included in the basket of goods are they?
If they are, probably about time this was looked at and they were removed in favour of the costs of sending an e-mail....you know, to keep up with the times0 -
Just for a bit of perspective, 1st class will then be in line with the rest of Europe, and 2nd class will still be cheaper than anywhere else in Europe, or so I think they said on PM0

We refer to hmrc as dh's penpal. But they have written to me ree times this week....twice today. Both times telling me they are going to write to me again soon!
Post is pretty amazing value for money for what it is, but ....whaty it is is needed less and less.
Along with the hmrc love letters the government is our biggest coorendant, with rpa and defra writing to us regularly too....both of us, at the same address, just in case we fail to communicate. we get a fair bit of bank post, even though we are meant to be paperless, and loads of circulars/junk, which are shiny so not even good for lighting the fire.
All other business and personal stuff is increasingly done electeonically. I have even been lax about christmas cards in the last few years....0 -

Emails are ok replacements to a point, but have you tried burning them ?

It's could affect people like me a lot. Not everyone does everything over the internet or via email. Many hobby art swaps have sprung up in recent years and with each price increase people stop participating. There are many tiny business that still operate by post and they will either have to absorb the cost or try to pass it on to customers, not always easy.
1st class stamps 46p to 60p
1st class large 75p to 90p
2nd class stamp 36p to 50p
2nd class large 58p to 69p
and the associated upgrades in prices for parcels along with the increase of 77p to 95p for using a signed for service.
