Car Breakdown Discussion

Hi,
I have just had a bad experience with RAC breakdown service and as the 3 month RAC cover came with the purchase of my car, I was hoping I might get some recommendations here of more reliable breakdown services. I saw Auto Express had Britannia and Green Flag top of their list, are they any good? What do other forumites use?

green flag are a scam outfit who refused to honour full breakdown cover when covid struck. They said they would take you to nearest bus stop or station and thats yer lot!! Milking it for all its worth. Never again. see trustpilot reviews

BEWARE AUTOAID AUTORENEWAL.I have been a customer of AutoAid for quite a few years, buying policies for myself, kids and mother-in-law. Service was OK, in fact good for the price compared to the big boys. My renewal came through in December as my policy was due to expire in January but due to a change in circumstances I was not going to renew so I only had a brief look at it. I never agree to Autorenew contacts so need to look at it.However a few days ago I had a nasty surprise, they had renewed my contract. It transpired that 3/4 way down my renewal notice Autoaid advise that they will renew this unless I contact them to opt out of AutoRenewal. I called them immediately and was told (in a rather abrupt and terse manner) that they had also sent me another email in December (which I have no trace of) advising of this change and that it was my responsibility to fully read all correspondence. The best they would do was to refund me £39.99 of my £59.99 fee.I have written to them objecting to this, but that did not help, nor apparently does the 14 day cooling off period help here. They state that this is legal, I have no doubt that technically it is but is it fair and reasonable? So please watch out for AutoAid and any other companies that decide to adopt this (IMHO) dubious practice.0

I was quoted about £70 to renew with the AA for basic breakdown cover. I went online to check the Green Flag price, which was £30. After some haggling the AA price-matched. A £40 saving for a 30-minute call. Not bad!0

I've been with the RAC over 20 years now. With a regular daily driver, plus a 24 yr old campervan, plus two 64 yr old classic cars, peace of mind is essential to me. All of these vehicles have been recovered on the back of a truck at some time over the years. Each year when my renewal comes up I call them and negotiate, and each time I get a reduction plus 3 months extra for free. So I've just got cover again for £96 for 15 months. Perfectly happy with that. It pretty much matches Autoaid, and I've always been really happy with the service from RAC.0

Homestart?
National or local?
Cheers.
I have car insurance thorough Admiral, and for Breakdown cover they just quoted me £69 for National + Homestart until my insurance ends in April. Afterwards I found out that Admiral has a deal with the AA. (Google "AA WINS BREAKDOWN ASSISTANCE CONTRACT WITH ADMIRAL IN STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP")0 -
