If I was confused about it then I'd get it in email from them that the named person was covered and archive the email.

(I don't see any confusion about what is meant by it in your link - only some queries about whether it was offered or not and that has clearly changed.)

As a bystander - so to speak. I'm completely confused.
I know what I think a common law marriage is but does everyone think the same as me? (Is a month long enough? a year? maybe 2 days?). Without a UK law legal definition and as I can't be bothered to look their definition up; unless one of you can say what kind of proof is needed by the company in "subject to proof being provided within seven days" means; I can't tell how hard that might be to prove. I expect they provide a list of possible documents that will prove it.
If they get it wrong someone could get free cover for their lodger.
An archived email with two names on it seems a good policy to me.

Yes, it's up to the company to decide what proof they want.
I would expect something like joint council tax bills/utility bills/bank accounts.
Most people aren't going to have that for someone they met in a bar last night :-)

If they send an email saying the partner is covered then I don't see why there would be an issue. If there was any mis-understanding at a later date then you just put the email out.
The alternative for someone very concerned is to go elsewhere but I can't see why a black and white confirmation wouldn't sastify in this situation.

Just took out new policy with auto aid in wife's name.

£49 for me but £35 through Groupon with code for her.

Happy with them called out 3 times over the years no problem. Better now you do not have to claim money back.

  • Having previously used many of the suggestions from MSE for my breakdown cover I am surprised that Start Rescue is not one of those mentioned.
A few years ago it was suggested to me to use this company and since then I have consistently found them still to be the cheapest even after checking the MSE site!
Have had TWO occasions to use them and found them to be very quick and because of their app easy to contact.
They also provide FREE LEGAL AID within the policy saving a further £30+!
Therefore I am very puzzled as to why MSE do not feature this company!
Can MSE or anyone provide any reasons?
  • Not sure why you took out second policy as thought Auto Aid covered holder and spouse for any car?
Ie used Auto Aid previously and they covered both of us to be driver or passenger in any car, therefore both our cars were covered under one policy

It doesn't work well for me.
I'm married and we have 2 cars and 3 bikes.
Looks expensive compared with autoaid for a married couple.
  • Have recently taken out a RecoverCover '1Call' policy for £20.90. It includes home start and is limited to one call per year but my car isn't quite 4 years old and I've only done about 12.5k miles so I think I'm unlikely to need room for any extra callouts for quite a while!

Oh, and there's no excess either.
  • Haggled over the phone with RAC and got my renewal quote of £86 for Roadside and Recovery to include Homestart and Onward Travel for the equivalent price (to include a £50 Amazon voucher). Had to quote AA comparison and Cashback offers, and she went away to review her offer a few times. Best offer came when I said she couldn't beat the AA with cashback offer and I would leave the RAC.
Know what the competitors are offering and what service you need and what you are willing to pay. Have a calculator to hand.
    It's worth it.

Can't quite follow what you are saying. Are you saying you paid £86 for a years cover and also got a £50 Amazon voucher, So in fact it cost you £36 for the full premium package? Or are you saying you paid with an Amazon voucher?
  • WARNING Don't touch Green Flag until you've read their policy. My MIL and OH both got ripped off last year when after years of subscribing to a very economical package, found that they weren't covered for flat tyres (MIL is 84) nor for recovery if the car has recently been in a garage - OHs had been serviced about two weeks before and the issue was entirely unrelated. They refused point blank to attend and quoted private recovery fees of £300+ to assist. We added them both to my RAC for £45 in the end and RAC did a fine job sorting it all out. When I read the small print it seems as though GF barely cover anything. Cheapest not always best value.
