I'm a solo traveller who likes caravanning but recently got caught out by the small print. Went to a festival 40 miles from home but within 24hrs arrival, I fell down a step & badly sprained my ankle(took 8 weeks to heal). So with a car I can't drive and nobody local to help, I call my roadside recovery service Kindertons to claim under illness injury section. Only to find I'm not covered as "I had already reached my destination" and "I was not in possession of my car" as I called whilst waiting for an x ray. If the car had broken down I would have been towed home.
My question is does anybody know of a roadside assistance service that would have got me home as I do a lot of camping all over the UK?0 -
Thanks for the heads up.Surely its unfair contract to have this small print.
Beginning to think, it should be mandatory to have warnings on Insurance policy in plain English to alert you you to pitfalls.
Also so surprised that UK companies are still ripping off when compared to European companies. If we leave Europe will I still be able to get Euro policy? If not, I can be sure UK companies will inflate prices again as there will be less competition. :mad:0 -
Hi,
Thinking of taking out 2gether policy for £20 with similar level of cover to AutoAid. Thought I'd ask about it before I take it out.
Does anyone have recent experience of 2gether?
Thanks!
I would ignore these cowboys. Completely useless on the two occasions I have used them. They dont cover for tyre damage. I ended up walking home from work (which luckily isnt very far) after my tyre got a puncture when hitting a curb. I ended up getting a parking ticket and also had to call mobile tyre fitters the next day to get the tyre replaced.
The second instance was at home the car wasn't starting and call-out mechanic ran some diagnostics and suggested battery is faulty. He said that it isnt worth recovering to nearest garage as its only a battery issue and that we should just get a battery and install ourselves since garages will rip us off. The mechanic stated we have two more callouts for this issue so even if battery doesnt work then they can come out again. We purchased a battery for the car but it wasn't starting. I rang customer services and they said its only one call-out per fault and wouldnt honour what the mechanic said.
I paid £19 per annum for this service but it has cost me more in other ways. I'd rather stick with AA or RAC. Just on the weekend my cousin who is with RAC managed to get his car keys left in the boot with the car locked. He rang RAC and they came in 6 minutes and in 10 minutes managed to get the keys out. Really impressed with their service. I'd rather pay more and have peace of mind than go with a cheap service who won't help when I need assistance.0 -
It seems the MSE Breakdown cover page is out of date.
It suggests that personal cover is available via Quidco and you get £15.40 back.

"You can get personal cover too, which will protect you as a driver or passenger in another car, for £49.98 per year.
Choose the personal-based policy and the cashback amount is £15.40, also via Quidco*, reducing the premium to £34.58/yr."
The quidco site says
£12 for fully paid breakdown policies with a value of £30-£50.99
Worth mentioning is that Top Cashback now offers more than Quidco
for fully paid breakdown policies with a value of £30 - £50.99 Exclusive Offer £14.66
If you can find a way to soend £1.01 more you can get more than double the credit.
for fully paid breakdown policies with a value of £51 - £83.99 Exclusive Offer £36.66
What I found is that the RAC personal cover is actually rubbish because it only takes you up to 10 miles or to a place of safety.
At the time of writing if you add recovery it takes the premium up to £99
Which brings you into
for fully paid breakdown policies with a value of £84 - £113.99 Exclusive Offer £52.38
So you pay £46.62 which is a few quid cheaper than what you were expecting for £49.

Thank you MSE - succeeded in getting £100 off my AA breakdown cover - was initially offered two years frozen at £50 off but opted for £100 off for this year. Was told that loyal members are always offered discounts if they call...:T:j0

I feel a bit silly but if we have mechanical breakdown cover (bought from car suppliers) do we need an AA type policy? Spring cleaning my paper work & trimming costs due to retirement. Not sure if these two types of insurance are basically the same..... Can anyone advise please.0
