Orange cancellation fee??

I had a dongle on contract with Orange. It has since come to an end, I called them to cancel it & cancelled the direct debit!

Now I'm getting letters demanding £30.61 or a debt collection agency will get involved. When I called to cancel the contract I got told that the payment I will have to make is a 'cancellation fee', I asked how this can be as it was not stated in the contract I signed? They told me that it is clearly stated in a document that is kept in store & I am able to see it if I go to my local store & ask for the proof! Surely if it is not in the contract that I signed & have a copy of, it is not a legal payment that I should be paying??

have you checked your contract? did you end it before the end date? I haven't heard of any cancellation fees for someone outside a contract, you need to look at the finer details of your contract.
  • Yep Ive read through the contract loads of times & theres nothing like this stated in it. The contract had come to an end so I gave the 30 days notice when I called to cancel it, I cancelled the direct debit & now 2 months later im getting these letters demanding £30.61.
Ive looked online & can't see anything like this either but Ive seen other people having similar issues

check back if you can and confirm you made the full number of payments - especially if you ended the DD as soon as you called to cancel as there is usually a final bill to pay.

Sounds like the standard cease fee which Orange charge for not taking a MAC. The fee is in the terms of the contract.
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!
