But...what if a child had eaten it?! They might have got sick. They might have DIED!!!unholyangel wrote: »Did you actually eat it? If not you cant legally claim for what "could" have happened, only what actually did and even then you're not necessarily on strong footing. However, there is no harm in asking for a goodwill gesture, especially since you're having to return to their store to get it replaced/refunded.
If you did eat it, have you been ill?Competition wins: Where's Wally Goody Bag, Club badge branded football, Nivea for Men Goody Bag0 -
no for inconvenience of having to go back - petrol
carparking charge
time, effort etc
they really should be more vigilant cos it could make some people ill
should have been picked up on thurs or fri at least by sat eve
How much did it cost?
If you think it's worth your time and effort, then take it back. Otherwise, for the sake of a couple of quid, throw it away and move on.
In fact, when you bought it, it was only a day out of date and you could have eaten it quite safely, no doubt. Food doesn't ruen bad on the stroke of midnight.
If it's still in the fridge, chuck it. If you froze it, eat it.0 -

These things do happen. When the items requiring date checking take up 20/30% of the grocery section they run into the thousands a small percentage are going to get missed. There's not a store in the country where every item on the shelf is in code.0 -
Not a good thread. Took until #12 for the obligatory 'What about the children'

report it to trading standards - its an offence to sell products past their use by dates
then take a photo of both items and then either refund it or chuck it. if TS wnat to take it any further they may require you to keep the item.
TS may only take action if the shop is a problem shop that does it a lot.0 -

As soon as the supermarket show TS their policy, and the number of goods that are disposed of, i'm sure it won't go much further unless it's a regular occurence.0 -
wow
shop make a mistake and half you people want a hanging
unbelievable really
as for wilf55 who started the thread you have 2800 posts so i would have thought by now you were money saving savvy and got tesco to reduce it for you saturday night taken it home froze it and had it within the next 3 months
frankly this good forum is really going downhill with peoiple thinking they should get compensation for simple over sights by a probably busy small shop and customers who think they have a right to whinge at anything and everything0 -
Its a well known FACT that once food reaches 1 minute past its sell by date it becomes immediately toxic and randomly kills kittens!
Its true I tell you! It must be; I read it on the internet!
