Ryanair - Married/Maiden name change - our experience

I'm posting this here not so much to attract replies but to document what I have basically considered until now a complete impossibility: a relatively easy experience with Ryanair after making a mistake.

We'd flown from STN last week - checked in online and panicked as had booked my wife in her married name, not maiden name as on passport. I fully considered I'd have to pay the £extortionate name change fee to sort out the issue.

However, I rang up the customer service centre and was told "don't worry, as you're flying in a few days just turn up with your marriage certificate - everything will be fine". In hindsight we should have gone to the check-in desk, but we didn't (we were flying without checked baggage), but I wanted to document that we had no hassle either on the way out or on the return (on the return they did note that we hadn't had the name changed, but the assistant simply radio-checked with a colleague and then stamped our paperwork and wrote in the new name). We weren't charged a fee, either.

Please don't accuse me of working for Ryanair - I know they are a frightful company and I'd really rather not fly with them, but I did want to document this somewhere for others, as I'm sure people may find themselves in a similar experience in the future.

You say that; yet you acknowledge that they sorted out your problem quickly, efficiently, and without extortionate charge

I have had similar experiences a few times when either of the following has happened:
    - I have spellt a name wrongly. Corrected after a phone call at no charge
    - Schedule changes (minor or major). I have called to get another flight than offered (often a more expensive one) and whenever Ryanair has changed the schedule I have received whatever I have asked for.

I would also add that I often fly with my disabled daughter and this is also handled perfectly well by Ryanair.

It is not for these things Ryanair are known, you would expect them to be far worse, but it is what I have experienced..

For 95% of customers, they are a GREAT company. Getting people from A2B on time, for much less than their competitors.
Another 3 or 4% blame them for their own mistakes.
They probably genuinely mess aboutabout 1% off their customers.
These are the ones they need to focus on putting wrongs right.
