Correct, unless pre 1978, so 2 door mirrors will do.
    From http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_810.htm
    Obligatory mirrors are
    a. an exterior mirror fitted to the offside (right-hand side when seated in the drivers seat), or

    b. an exterior mirror fitted to the
nearside fleft hand side when seated In the drivers seat), or

    c. an interior mirror.

All goods vehicles must have two mirrors, one of which must be option 'a'.

Passenger vehicles with no more than 7 passenger seats first used before 1 August 1978 must have any one of the above options.

Passenger vehicles with more than 7 passenger seats of any age, and all passenger vehicles first used on or after I August 1978 (not being a minibus as above), must have two mirrors, one of which must be option 'a'.

When I broke mine off I got some of the glue (rather than patches) from Halfords, bit of a rip off at £5-ish for a tiny tube and piece of guaze but it did the job, even though I couldn't be bothered to clean most of the superglue off beforehand.

Don't know what it is but well worth saving the frustration of it falling off all the time!

Silicone rubber/glue works pretty well, as it bonds with glass...

I've always had good experience with epoxy glue (Araldite).

There are warnings that this can crack the windscreen, but I haven't had a problem. Once that stuff sets, the mirror ain't going nowhere!

Problem I see with epoxy resin glue, is that it sets rock solid. Your mirror really needs a bit of flexibility, you don't want to go over a bump and have the mirror rip a chunk of glass out of the windscreen.

Maybe I got away with it because there would seem to be an overlap between cars with poorly-glued mirrors and cars with loose, bouncy suspension that would prevent this from happening (namely: 90s Vauxhalls/Daewoos!!!).

Regardless, I had this arrangement on cars for a combined total of eight years without issue. Make of that what you will.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

I called Autoglass yesterday and the chap couldn't be more helpful on the phone - he had someone nearby who he sent to glue it back on. I asked how much it would be and he said 'We've got a charity box, just throw him a couple of quid'. How lovely.

The guy came and said the problems I had were because the mirror is so heavy and if it falls off again I should go to a scrap yard and get a Ford Fiesta one, they'll stay on with just the sticky pads.

I'm used to not having a rearview now, will be weird having one again! lol :)
Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

it actually makes you a better driver if you dont use it as you are more dependant on outside mirrors so become more aware of what is around you
i learnt this by driving vans over cars for most of my life (i prefer vans with a bit of style though) and even to this day if i get in a sales car to go on say a test drive or mot i never use the interior mirror to the point a few weeks ago a customer sat in a car and the mirror fell off in their hands (it was soo funny but not a matease):D
