Knocked my Rear View Mirror off

Hi there, hoping for some suggestions please.

I knocked my Rear View mirror off my Matiz about 6 weeks ago and it's still down (even having passed its MOT about 3 weeks ago!).

I've tried:
  • Superglue - too thin, just dribbled down the glass
  • Thick industrial velcro - was so thick, mirror wobbled too and fro as I was driving
  • Sticking pads from Halfords - stayed for a bit, next morning the mirror was in the footwell
  • Double sided sticky tape - stayed for a bit, next morning the mirror was in the footwell
  • 'Extra strong' mounting tape - stayed for a bit, next morning the mirror was in the footwell
  • Mounting tape on the glass, double sided tape on the mirror - stayed for a bit, next morning the mirror was in the footwell
The only thing I can think of to do next is buy a new rear view mirror that is not so heavy! But don't want to do that unless I have to, so suggestions gratefully received! :)

I once visited a well known car windscreen place for this very job. He gave me some double sided pads and razor blades to make sure no old pad was left. All for free!

Make sure glass is squeaky clean, use white spirit etc..., and apply when not too cold.

Use the proper pads from a motor factor and ensure all the other junk you have put on is scraped off. Anything else will expand/contract at a different rate from the mirror/glass and the best outcome is the mirror falls off. If you use superglue, its very common for the windscreen to crack.

Drive to Autoglass and let them fix it. They use heat activated glue which is stronger than you can buy.

You can get a special glue for mirrors, which, instead of getting weaker with UV sunlight, uses it to cure.

    :)

You only need 1 rear view mirror to pass a MOT. That includes wing mirrors.

I did think it would be okay, but was kind-of hoping that it would be magically attached to the screen when I picked the car up. But, no, was still on the passenger seat where I left it! lol

This happened on my KA, Use araldite glue and make sure the windscreen is clean and dry first, never had a problem after so held it well
