                    Hi,
I have been researching mobile phones as my contract is up this month and have found that the Galaxy SII seems to be the ideal, especially with the deal I've found however, talking to a friend they recommended the Sony Xperia S. They say it's a newer phone and they are quite a fan, I have a Sony vivaz and I hate it! It's 'clunky' to use and the screen is not very 'touch light' if you know what I mean, I've never taken to it and can't wait to get rid sooooo why should I look at the latest from the same company?
I want to make sure I get it right this time, anyone help?

Well the Vivaz is resistive screen (and perhaps you have not adjusted the sensitivty, however here is a comparison of the two http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4369&idPhone2=3022
and besides they are different OS.0

thanks for that DUTR unfortunately I don't understand all that jargon at all!!!! lol
I don't even understand your comment about different os (I know os means operating system but why they're different I have no idea!).
 I don't know the difference between 2 and 3G, basically I'm a tech numpty!
I am savvy enough to realise that the Sony xperia is a relatively new phone so will probably cost more than the Galaxy as I've read here that there's an updated model due out anytime soon. I don't know if it's worth looking at the more up to date phone if I didn't get on with the vivaz or just going for the good deal on the Galaxy?0

I suspect you are purchasing the handset within a contract agreement, hence whatever handset you choose you are semi stuck with it for 24 months, if you really must get a contract then get it with the latest handset to market eg wait until the S3 is out though the deal may not be as attractive as an S2, if you want a handset right now then the Xperia S is as good as it gets .
For popular Apps then you will find a lot more available from googleplay than for the symbian, which is essentially the Nokia but you cannot access the OVI app store with your current handset. Yes there is lots of data listed in the link , but you are comparing a flagship handset xperia s with a mid range older handset vivaz, if you are happy enough with the screensize then the xperia Ray my suit.0

The Goodmans last line was the most important
"Play with all phones you like in the shop and see which one you like"
The OP needs to go play and see how they manage without a manual in store, and then decided if they want to pay more for the design conistancy of Apple, or can get along with an Android phone.
Now this is something that I think we can all agree on. For simplicity of use though, I think that the OP should additionally consider a WP7 phone - especially given its ease of use.0

Thanks for the advice guys - keep it coming! lol
I'm so much of a numpty I have no idea what WP7 is?
I must go into the wrong phone shops as on a visit last week, the shops I went into had display phones that weren't working - and the o2 shop didn't have an iphone on display at all!!
I think a visit to the city is called for where the shops are bigger and may actually have the phones in working order!
I was also very unimpressed with the 'consultants' in the shops, in one I waited and waited and in the end gave up and left, in another he didn't even come from behind the counter to show me phones and in the third he lost interest when I refused to sign up that day!
I'll persevere though because as has been said previously on a contract (can't afford to buy a handset outright) I'm stuck with the phone for 2 years and need to be sure it's one I 'get on with'.0

            I have the arc S
It is a good phone but only get it on a 12 month contract ..24month and it will feel old for the last year.
The camera is excellent ..The display is great for watching video on. TV catchup plays really well.
On the downside it is single core and it shows at times when a few apps are up and running ..The S2 is quicker although uglier ..Arc S is a much sexier phone.
I am on a 12 month contract which is £36 a month but with redemption and Quidco works out at about £21.00 a month for 12 months. This is with Dialaphone and I have had no problems so far I have 2 contracts
As I say main thing ..it will feel old after 12 months with new stuff coming on the market S3 is the one ..But the other players won't stand and watch ..they will bring out new phones.
My son has bought a class 10 32gb card for his ..tells me it speeds stuff up a bit especially viewing photos ..which I take a shed load and annoys me when is is slow to load.
I do like the phone a lot and as I say and has been remarked on ..The photo's are excellent ..I think better than the S2 ( I take technical photos for my job and the definition is great)0

Bright sunshine (like yest ) you can see the screen easily. I didn't even need to turn the brightness up past about 30%. THe photo's it takes can be fantastic and an added bonus that you can plug it straight into you hdmi on your tv and view the pics in full hd :j “Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 ) you can see the screen easily.
