I stopped smoking in January after 50 years, just because I wanted to,the extra money goes to the Grandkids which is great but other than that I dont feel any different.

Well done!! Did you go cold turkey? How is it going for you, do you still get the cravings? I have tried giving up a few times, but I believe for me, it is a habit rather than addiction so I'm not convinced patches etc would work.

I smoke but I make my own so it works out at about £2.50 a day.

54 year old here who has smoked 15-20 a day for the last 35 years. I dread to think how much I've spent on the damn things. I'm (unfortunately) effectively single again now, its amazing how many women on dating sites reject a smoker immediately.

Yet another reason to give up (again), I'm a couple of days into stopping now, would love a ciggie but a patch is on and I really want to chuck it.

    120 a week = 6 packets
    6 packets = £42 pw
    £42 pw = £2204 pa
£2204 pa = £3000 pa before tax and NI

£3,000 pa would be a chunky payrise!

    Ex-smoker here!
Gave up 18 months ago and LOVE being smoke free!
It was never about the money for me, it was about the fact that i didnt want to be an addict, and didnt want to get the health repercussions.

For anyone who wants to quit, i'd 100% recommend Allen Carrs 'Easyway to stop smoking' book.

You'd do better if, like me, you made your own. I don't mean hand rolling, I mean real cigarettes. It's easy peasy and it would cut your expenditure to £750 a year.

So do I but in the meantime I'm reducing the financial pain.

Oh well, time to switch to a cheaper brand again! At this rate it'll be the sweepings up off the floor!

I remember my Dad giving up on budget day about 25 years ago now. He said "I'm not paying that for a packet of cigarettes" and he never had another one!
