Smokers?

Actually if you look at the stats then the older generation...those over 60...a lower proportion of them smoke. Under 20%...I think the smokers might have died off leaving the healthy non smokers alive whilst those aged from 25-45 about 1 in 4 smoke.Ive no idea what the official stats are...but I think its a generation thing....there are still a lot of elderly people who smoke because they have always smoked...and for some of them its very hard to give up.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I went cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant, after smoking 10- 15 a day.
If I wasn't pregnant, I would probably still be smoking. So far pregnancy has been the only thing powerful enough to make me quit. Rising prices didn't do it, neither did the awareness of what I was doing to my own health.
I really really hope I'm now an ex smoker, and by the time the baby comes I won't want to smoke. Even now after 3 months of not smoking I really fancy one every now and again, but I can't have one and that's that.Don't suffer alone - if you are experiencing Domestic Abuse contact the National Domestic Abuse Helplines

I think the attitude towards smoking is different in the older generation though. So many times I've heard 'We were told to smoke when I was younger, to relieve stress.' 'Doctors change their minds all the time about this stuff. Next week they'll change it back again.' 'I've been smoking all my life and I'm fine, so I'm not about to stop now.' etc.February wins: Theatre tickets0

This is so true....my mum has smoked a lifetime...I think its fair to say shes been a smoker 70 years or so...through 5 pregnancies...that didnt seem to bother her either....shes paid a small price healthwise for smoking, shes not in wonderful health now...but no worse than a non smoker of a similar age....but it was the effects of passive smoking that really have impacted on our family... the effects on others around her have certainly been catastrophic...
But to her its an addiction she cant kick...frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

And it's easy to deny the effect on others. Well....easier to deny than health effects on ourselves anyway. You can't really get away from the fact you caused yourself x, y or z and are now struggling with daily life because of it. But....if someone else gets ill, you don't have that constant reminder, so it's easier to deny the part you played.February wins: Theatre tickets0

I was priced out of cigs about 4 years ago, low wage and couldn't justify paying the price of them. Still would like to have one sometimes, very rarely, but I wont. I have to say I do not feel any better but I must be.Treat other's how you like to be treated.
