I assume then that you have a job? Or else how could you afford to pass up an opportunity for such a trivial matter.

No but i would not spend the £4 required to get a passport sized photo either. Would you?

You have to have a photo on your laptop/pc as you have to attach it to your cv to send it via online

You wouldn't gamble 4 quid on the chance of a job? Then you must have a screw loose.

Besides, do you not have a camera phone? Or a printer? Or know someone that does? I doubt very much if they are expecting a particular format. Just a simple, well lit headshot from your camera phone would do.

I see so many CVs that they all begin to look the same. Anything that stands out slightly from the rest has a better chance of catching my eye and winning an interview. If you won't spend a few quid on something that will make you slightly less forgettable, then how will you compete with those that do go the extra mile?

maybe, maybe not depends if i want to work in accounting, i do have a recent picture from when i renewed my driving licence so i could use that if i were to apply for such a job.

No camera phone or a printer when you have no job you cannot afford every luxury that is associated with technology.

I can see a few reasons for it actually. In a sales role you don't want someone who looks like a thug, has a few piercings, looks like he'd like to knife you in the back of the shop and couldn't crack a smile if you bought his most expensive product 10 times over.

Some people have a naturally appealing face. By that I don't mean attractive. Think of Santa. Everyone see's Santa as a nice person - big fluffy white beard, fat, friendly, big red cheeks and a permanent smile. Hardly attractive huh? You would be shocked therefore to see someone playing Santa with just a moustache, nose stud, dark black rings round his eyes and a face thats so pale an eskimo looks tanned and stinks of weed while burping up last nights curry and fosters.

I've had similar with my local B&Q too. The younger staff can often be useless but you go find an older boy who's got experience behind him, has his own workshop at home, has a passion for DIY and he'll put you right. Because he's not a crack addict and a couch potato he's proabably a friendlier bloke who smiles too. Not guaranteed but I think you get what I'm saying.

Admittedly though photos can be deceptive (even though the camera never lies) I've seen some peoples mugshots on their ID card and they look like miserable s*ds yet their totally different. Conversely you can have someones photo where they look happy, friendly and eager to help and they're a miserable arrogant tw*t who couldn't give a rats about service.

Wow. With an attitude like that really can't understand why employers aren't queing up around the block to offer you a job.

Really? You don't know one person who owns a camera phone? Do you live in a cave??

I do know people but the jobs i apply for do not require a photograph on application or cv's, so i have never had to think about it before why would I.

Its frowned upon (except for modelling type jobs) but unless they write back and say they aren't interviewing you due to something to do with the photo there is little you can do.

I've known agencies take a photo at a sign on interview (and state its to help them remember) but I've never been asked to attach one to apply for one for an accounts job.

Well, they don't specify a facial/passport photo, so just choose your best bit and do a close-up of that. It doesn't even have to be naked. Do you have nice ankles?
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
  • I've never seen a job advertisement that requires you to attach a photo to your application, but I have been asked for passport photos at interviews. Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with it. A little controversial perhaps, but could it be that those who would have a problem with it, are...shall we say...facially challenged?!
