Hi,
Can anybody confirm how much I am allowed to have in savings before it affects my benefits ? My dad wants to give me some money but wants to ensure it will not go against me...bless him:)

he wants to ensure it won't go against you? You mean he doesn't want to give it to you incase your precious benefits are affected?
When your life is a mess, stop and think what you are doing before bringing more kids into it, it's not fair on them.

I would guess that's exactly what they mean. Seems fair enough to me.

You can have up to £16,000 in savings. They will assume an amount of income from that money though, the above link gives a little more detail. Scroll down till you get to Capital Limits. Whatever your dad gives you, make sure you declare it to all concerned parties.

from past posts, the OP has been claiming benefits for at least 13 years...

So. If there's an issue with this the relevant bodies will deal with it. Nothing to do with you.

From past posts you've been posting rubbish on the forum for quite some time. Now that IS something you can do something about.

safety net, not a lifestyle choice. Friends and family should be the first to help, not the government

Oh don't talk rubbish. If you've got an issue with the benefits system set up your own political party and see how many agree with you.

In the meantime learn to read.

"Its about helping people get their entitlement! Not about benefits policy!

This board is here for help and support for those on or looking to claim benefits, not for judgement.

It’s ONLY focus is helping people with their money. "

she wasn't asking what her entitlements are (she's already got that sorted) she was asking how in effect, she could fiddle it so that she doesn't get a penny more than she can before she loses her benefits.

Again, a bit of a failure in the reading department aren't you?

What was actually asked was about how much was allowed in savings before it affected benefits. No mention of a 'fiddle'. A fiddle would be going against the rules, probably lying about the gift. In addition, there was no mention of the size of the gift. For all you know it could be well under the threshold anyway.

May I suggest professional help for your self-esteem issues? It's not healthy the way you can clearly only get a feeling of fulfilment a) on the internet, and b) trying to criticise other people. I'm sure your doctor can point you in the right direction.

if she was told she could have £17 thousand or £15999 which one is she going to take. Like I said, it's a fiddle, circumvention, call it what you want.

But she made no mention of an amount. The gift could have been for £5, £500, £5 million, whatever. You seem to have magically decided it was right on the threshold, a threshold that the OP didn't even know.

In answer to your question, I have no idea which she'd take. Possibly £17,000 and have a holiday. Possibly neither as she may already have money in savings.

It's neither a fiddle nor circuvention. It's following the rules. You seem to have a tenuous grasp on language so I don't expect you to understand, but just because you don't like the rules, doesn't mean everyone following them is wrong.

Fact is, you know next to nothing about the OP and had nothing of use to contribute. So why not do everyone on these boards a favour and keep your pathetic comments to yourself? And get that medical help, you'll really feel much better for sorting out your issues.

That is the nature of capitalism, maximise profit whilst staying within the rules of the system or pushing those rules to the limit, whether it be multi-millionaire MPs claiming duck houses and !!!!!! videos as expenses, companies registering in offshore tax havens to avoid paying tax or benefit claimants accepting cash gifts. The latter having the least to gain.
