You don't need anything on the lists in the books.
somewhere safe to sleep, a new car seat, a pushchair or sling and a chair of some sort.
Don't 'stockpile' .. it is a waste of space and money.. the shops are not going to disappear overnight, there will not be an international nappy shortage and somewhere ALWAYS has an offer on.
toiletries.. my list is a bottle of baby bath (nothing else breaks through the grease and grease leads to cradle cap which is vile.. why do people insist on wiping their hands on a baby's head?) .. a roll of cotton wool.. not the 'baby stuff' that is extortionate.. a bottle of infacol, a tube of metanium and a tube of lansinoh for bf mummies. A towel or 2 and a changing mat though a towel on the floor is just as effective.
breast pads, sanitary towels and if you decide on dispoable knickers.. get the size bigger than you need or they are too tight!
You don't need a swing or an entertainer or dummies or performing monkeys.
If it is your first don't buy anything but sleepsuits and vests up to 6 months.. and get cheapy or secondhand ones some WILL end up in the bin.. friends/family will buy outfits.. leave the tags on and ask for receipts if necessary!
Buy a cot when you need one.. it isn't vital before birth so long as sproggit has somewhere safe to sleep.
babies need more blankets than the books say.
Cot bumpers need to be banned.. yes they look pretty but they cause infant deaths.. don't waste your money!
muslin squares act as everything from a bib or nappy to a sun hat or towel.. I had millions! They are great for swaddling newborns without them baking too!
And don't feel bad if you do not want to breastfeed or try and it doesnt work out.. a happy healthy baby and mum are all that matter and we are very lucky to have a choice..
Learn to say no and tell people to mind their own business.. Take everyones advice with a smile and do as you pleasethey will say it anyway sometimes it is easier to let them get on with it.
I couldnt not have a baby monitor without movement sensor.. I had a couple of blue baby scares with my youngest boy.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0
