Re your last point RainbowDrops, do you think it's ok to send them to people who may end up being invited just to the evening do?

At the end of the day it's personal choice, but I tend to agree with Jo.
Some people may assume it's a "pre-invite" to the whole day - we got a couple of people asking if they needed to RSVP when they got the magnets.

I got Save the Date magnets - we are getting married on Easter Saturday. I have loads of family in Scotland so thought it was worth it because of it being so busy around that time for accommodation.

We went through quidco and bought them from vistaprint and they were completely free - we did postcard invites from them too same way and all in spent about £4. i saved on postage by sending them up with a relative who delivered them for me and made a trip up ourselves.

The ones i did send out i paid the normal stamp cost - they are light enough.

I sent them to everyone who was coming to the day and evening - didn't get any queries from them. All i had on mine were - Save the date, X & X are getting married on X at X. Invites will follow.

Also meant my stationary matched :) Though i did have to stick a thin ribbon along the bottom of all the invites as they put vistaprint in the corner :)

EDIT: I sent them about 13 months in advance

For those asking about postage for the fridge magnets, I am ordering ours in batches from Vistaprint and per 10 large magnets it is costing roughly £2.55 postage and about 63p in tax so just over £3.

I am doing them in batches of 10 as each ten are free + postage and it works out cheaper than doing 40 + postage (strangely enough)

We also ordered 100 free matching postcards as evening save the dates.

I get emails daily from Vistaprint with different freebie offers so its a case of just looking at them regularly and using the link in that email to get the offer - if you just log in though the website, the prices wont reflect the email. I have noticed this when using one email to click through and then a second different one offered completely different prices!!

Our date is between Xmas and New Year so we thought we'd better get STD's for everyone as we know its a popular time of year to visit families etc.

We werent going to give ours out until this Xmas, and pop them in peoples xmas cards but then my cousin told me she had already been invited to another wedding the same date so now we are slowly giving them out as we see people!

As with the invites themselves, I found that *by far* the largest expense of the invites was the postage to send them out to everyone. If you can give as many out by hand, you'll save yourself a bulk of the cash.

We ordered some moo cards for ours, they went down really well. Cost about £10 for 100 at the time. Could probably have got them cheaper elsewhere, but I was happy to pay a tenner just to get another thing crossed off the list quickly and easily :) Didn't match the rest of the invites etc exactly, but were in the same theme.
