If it contains sorbitol that would be the reason. You get that in quite a few diabetic sweets, and they do warn that it 'makes you go'!0 -
If you can find the recipe for Cranks prune cake, it is gorgeous!! Cannot find my copy of the cookbook or I would post it for you!0

I soak prunes in cold tea for a few days (in a plastic container in the fridge) and eat them with some natural yogurt. The tea plumps them up and form a nice 'syrup'.0

I love prunes and love some of the ideas above.
That said, i am a little odd, i would choose prunes d 'agen over chocolate any day of the week. They are probably a bit unhealthy, but the mixing with apple puree, and perhaps almonds, and vanilla, or the calvados or brandy if alcohol is ok would be the winner for me!0 -

What is it with Sainsbury's sugar free products? Last year I was happy to discover they sell s.f. marshmallows - but they gave me the same result - & with a terrible stomach ache.
No other sugar free foods I've eaten have ever done the same.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -

Check the ingredients. If it contains sorbitol that will be the reason. Some people are obviously more sensitive to it than others.0 -

I remember when I had my gallbladder removed that my belly was swollen for quite a while. Cannot remember if I had difficulty in going though but I probably did.
I would eat slightly burnt toast, veggies, very lean meat, skimmed milk. Drink plenty of water as that can get you moving as will a bit of gentle exercise e.g. walking so you could walk to the shops and back (just to window shop as you won't be able to lift anything heavy for a while).
Dried apricots are fab - they have nice ones in Aldi that don't need pre-soaking, they are soft and juicy.0
