    ADSL Line

    Status:Cable connectedLine mode:G.992.1 (G.DMT)Maximum line rate:3008 kbps (downstream) / 352 kbps (upstream)Noise margin:21 dB (downstream) / 7 dB (upstream)Line attenuation:23 dB (downstream) / 13 dB (upstream)Output power:19 dBm (downstream) / 12 dBm (upstream)

there is something very wrong with your connection....at 23dB downstream you should be syncing with the excahnge at the full 8128kb/s (or 7616kb/s if interleaving is on on your line). Your snrm is also extremely high at 21dB. Can you plug your router into the test socket (behind the detachable bottom half of your master socket) and re-check the line stats.

If there's a big difference in your line stats then there's a problem with your internal wiring. If no major differences, then it's either the router slowly dying or there is something wrong on your line and a call to orange will be the only way to get a fault diagnosis kicked off.....

edit: could also be a microfilter going duff...can you try a new one ??

BT refitted me a master socket a few months ago - it's one where it has a seperate line to put the router and telephone in - will this have a test socket in it? The internet was working perfectly since until this power cut.

I live in a village and I think the max we can get is 8mb (not sure if this explains anything) - my router is quite old prob about 2.5years - when I googled about the prob some people said a power cut can permanently damage a router so unsure if that has happened.

I don't know what my stats were prior to this as I never checked (I don't really understand it) but that error message has only shown up since the power cut.

if you've already got a filtered faceplate, that should be fine unless it itself has gone faulty....can you borrow another router to try?? That'd be my next step before calling orange :)

Yes I will try another router - I haven't got one but i'll call Orange they said last time I spoke to them my Router was old so I don't think it will be hard to get another one out of them.

    Thanks for everyones help x

Check out https://www.samknows.com and do a search for your exchange to see which ISPs are available. If you have any LLU operators (like TalkTalk, Sky or BE/O2) then you could be getting 15meg+ on an ADSL2+ connection, rather than your current pitiful connection.

I checked I can only get this :
The following services are available in your location:
    • BT Wholesale ADSL
    • BT Wholesale ADSL Max
I think it's because I live in a village - I am moving in 6 weeks though - only problem is my Orange internet is free as I got it when they were doing the free broadband with any contract over £30 and when I switched my phone contract to a cheaper one they didn't take the internet off me. So I pay only £10 a month for mobile and internet.

Although my internet is not a high speed one is has always opened pages quite quickly (until now) would it be worth me upgrading to a package I pay for when I move - will I notice a big difference?

it depends.....if all you do is browse the net and don't download much, you probably won't notice too much if you have a faster line...when you move a lot will depend on how far you are from the exchange at the new property..you won't really know for sure until you get there and have an active bb connection to see the stats from (and which providers are at the exchange). If you know where you're moving to and have a phone number for that address, use the samknows checker to get an idea.

sorry, forgot to add, even if you've got a filtered faceplate, there's still a test socket behind it....just pop the 2 screws out and gently remove the faceplate, plug router in via a microfilter and re-check the line stats :)
