What's the ingredients? Pedigree type stuff could definately be the cause of gas, not got the best ingredients in them.

I'm not a fan of Pedigree stuff either but got them on the recommendation of his vet, he's not showing many signs of joint problems as he's been on propolis for several years but he does sink a bit when standing for long periods, so give him the jointcare sticks anyway as the glucosamine and green lipped mussel will help.
He hasn't got wind on them.

Ingredients - Free from artificial colours and flavourings.
Glucosamine 500mg, green lipped mussel powder 500mg, Vit C, Vit E, MSM, Zinc suphate, DL-methionine, antioxidants.
Cereals, veg protein extracts, meat and animal derivatives incuding 4% chicken, various sugars, molluscs and crustaceans, shrimp shells (natural source of glucosamine),minerals, seeds, oils and fats, herb.

I only started the joint sticks 3 days ago, and from what I remember he started with the wind about a week ago, so I am guessing it isn't them.

If only dogs knew the issues they caused!

I'd like to see if I can sort it for him as much as me though, he obviously isn't used to blowing off in such great proportions as he looks so confused!!

I got the cheapo Sains own brand version rather than pedigree, as looking at the ingredients they were exactly the same

I can't say I've noticed the Sains ones, I'll have a look for them, but I've got at least another 8 weeks worth of the pedigree ones which were on offer when I bought them so will use those up first.

If it started about the time he started the medication, it sounds as though it is definitely that.
My dog doesn't have to have any vet medication luckily, well not for joints anyway.

I think they were about 70p a pack cheaper. The ingredients looked pretty much identical too.

See, managing to shoehorn some money saving in to a thread about dog gas :D

Bakers did some that were even cheaper than the own brand ones, but I couldn't work out what was in them, the ingredients were not very clear at all. I imagine with what goes in to Bakers dog food the sticks would not only give him wind but it would be multi-coloured too!

If he's blowing off that much, the wind must be building up in his stomach, it could be causing him pain too.
I'd talk to the vet about it, they might be able to change him to something else.

Grains are a common cause of wind - dog's digestive systems aren't designed for plant matter so it can often sit around in the gut causing excess gas. Veggies - well, just like humans with brussell sprouts, cabbage, etc., some veggies are just more gas-producing than others. Meat and animal derivatives - the issue here is that they don't specify which meat. My dogs have a wind issue with lamb, some dogs have an issue with chicken, others it could be beef. So when you can't tell which meat is used in a food, you can't tell if it's got a trigger in there.
I've even heard cases of specific supplements causing wind - heard of several dogs who just don't agree with green lipped mussel. This is another reason I tend to choose to give human supplements as I can introduce one at a time to make sure they agree with the dog.

I definitely wouldn't touch anything of Bakers with a bargepole!!
Anything that Sains sells saves me money anyway!! Even Pedigree. I wish they sold Arden Grange though!!

Do you buy the very big bags? I can't store them anywhere and have to get the 2.5 kilo ones. I find its cheaper from Waitrose than anywhere else. The 2.5 kilo bags from everywhere else seem to be over £9 a bag, Waitrose is £7.

    Ah ha,

Looking at that link krlyr, it mentions cheese as being a cause for gas. I am using bits of cheese to get his tablets down him as it is the only thing so far I have found that he won't just nibble and then spit out the tablet.

I think my plan might be...

Cut out the joint sticks for a couple of days to see if that changes things

If not, try cutting out the cheese. Just got to try and find something else to get the tablets down him. The back of the throat thing does not work. Sausage does not work. Hiding them in his food does not work. Hiding them in dog treats does not work. Peanut butter on bread does not work. Marmite does not work. Grrrr!

When he is back at the vet on friday I will see if there is any way I can get his meds in liquid form or something.

It seems to have started before the Joint care sticks though and they are not very big so the amount of cereals etc in them are hardly going to cause that amount of a problem I wouldn't have thought.
I was giving my dog the Seatone green lipped mussel capsules until I realised that there was the same amount of it in the joint sticks.
