pcilliterate wrote: »I have never done a System Restore before, am I supposed to use the Samsung Recovery Solution 4 programme on this laptop or is there another way to do it? Don't want to mess it up without knowing what to do first??
Would it also mean it would delete any documents created after the past date I restore it to?
Well the PC TOOLS Recovery I installed was a waste of time!
My scan took nearly 3hrs and said:
"Below is a list of the recoverable files found. Select the files to recover."
There is a very long list of recovered files with a checkbox to select which ones you want to recover, I selected all and the RECOVER button does not select(it is inactive-unhighlighted) there is a picture of a LOCK on it, I am guessing that means this feature is only available onPAID VERSIONS, why can't I click it!! What is the point of doing a 3hr scan and not allowing me to recover anything after!!!
I want to delete this bloody thing but don't want to if it is the only way to recover what it deleted
PLEASE HELP with recovery:(
No, that's a Factory Restore, which will lose all your data and aftermarket program installs. I suggested a System Restore, which is a Windows function-just type it into your Windows Explorer Find box and it will come up. A Sys Res does not affect data files, only programs and settings. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Your time would be better spent uninstalling the software you never wanted, and googling and starting again - if sites are important, bookmark them, if work is important, save them on a regular basis, if data is important, backup.
if you really want to search for deleted files, try recuva, but it's not going to bring back data that wasn't saved in the first place.!!

Ok, I just found it on the Control Panel, System Restore-
Undo recent system changes, but leave files such as documents, pictures and music unchanged. This might remove recently installed programs and drivers
The Samsung Recovery Solution said: It is a program that backs up the current status of the computer and restores the computer hard disk drive when a problem occurs, then asks to select a symptom:
-Restore
-Backup
-System Software
I'll just go ahead and do the one on the Control Panel, if it works I am deleting PC Tools right away!
Thanks:)

It will delete PC Tools for you if you choose the appropriate date.
The Sansung program is something diferent, no use to you now as you've not taken any backups with it.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
In reply to CLOSED:
"Your time would be better spent uninstalling the software you never wanted"-well I didn't want to delete till I recovered everything just in case it was the ONLY option to use to recover my data+why I installed it's counterpart PC TOOLS RECOVERY, I will be DELETING it.
"if sites are important, bookmark them, if work is important, save them on a regular basis"-I do this but I was in the middle of my work and had tabs open and it closed them without prompting whist I went away for a few mins, it was unexpected, few hrs later I would have finished and Bookmarked it all. And I leave my History alone as it's quicker to come back to, how could I predict that some progamme would install and wipe everything without me having to CONFIRM or REGISTER.??
"try recuva, but it's not going to bring back data that wasn't saved in the first place"-Hopefully it will! Will save me a lot of time to find all my research.0 -
The point I was trying to make is you can't undelete something that wasn't there in the first place.
Unless you have autosave or temp files or unsaved docs from word etc, there will be nothing to find. What were you editing in?
If you were using a recent version of office, search for unsaved.

Surely finding the sites again is easier - if it just happened, you would know what you searched for, and have an idea where you found it.!!

Thanks for you help all but turns out PC TOOLS is malware and a complete scam so hope some just putting the extra info on in case it helps anyone else with the same problem, searching for solutions I found a lot of complaints on Forums.

How can I get rid of an unsolicited scan?
As someone else wrote online:
Any time I am working, an unsolicited ad from PCTools.com crashes into and destroys what I'm working on and starts a scan immediately. I do not want this product. How do I get rid of the irritating ad that keeps deleting whatever I'm working on a starts scanning as though I was a customer. I assure you, I am NOT a customer. I've written to them and they say they can't talk to me unless I purchase the product. I told them I would not do that. All I want is for the ads to stop.
The System Recovery did not work and it does not recover all your internet files, PC Tools has deleted everything on my Google chrome and now the settings page is also all messed up and layout is different. I cannot recover my files without paying for the full version-NO WAY!! I never downloaded it! And the contact emails do not work for the support-failure to send emails-which is the usual with scamming companies!
So BEWARE others, stay away from PC TOOLS or DELETE as soon as it pops up!!!!!!!0 -

That would be due to a recent Chrome update.0 -
