Is a bad job better than no job at all?

Not much future in that.0 -
Depends of what the alternative to the bad job is.
Telling someone at an interview that you have not worked for the last 5 years as you find the thought depressing and would rather stay at home, is not going to help your prospects either.
I think the key is not to take any old job in desperation, I recently applied for a job sorting out waste in recycling bins for min wage, I can see that being a barrel of laughs, a direct route to depression.0 -
As a single mum i have worked doing loads of things. Yes, DO think a 'bad' job is better than no job!
I'll clean toilets to put food on the table so that my kids can eat, and i am not embarassed to admit it!
My Mum always told me there are two types of people
Those who will wash floors when the going gets tough
and those people who will still wait for someone to do it for them.....
I've done cr*p job and hated them, to the point of crying - but those jobs led to better jobs, more choice and promotion.
My mum cleaned toilets as a single mum bring up 3 kids, I cleaned toilets to get through Uni and again when my husband was sick and I couldn't get any other job to fit round his care - we both hated it...but I still think it was better than not doing anything to resolve the terrible situation of debt and being flipping broke...0 -
I can speak from experience on this, my last job id dreaded getting up in the mornings for and the only reason why was i absolutely detested it. Mainly due to some of the people there plus the job i would be doing. Id wanted to just quit but i knew that with no job and not able to get JSA id have no money coming in so i kept on with the job whilst looking for jobs to apply for. Probably didnt help that i didnt take a proper holiday and havent done for a few years.
So yes i found having my last job although i hated it it was better than not having the job.0 -

Translation - living off the backs of other people who have to go to work whether they want to or not, to pay for those who think unemployment is a choice.
I have nothing against those people genuinely unemployed and actively seeking work but for those who think they are better than the people they are living off because they trudge through "bad " jobs to put food on the table, I have nothing but contempt. If you aren't happy working and would prefer to be unemployed then fine. That's your choice. But do it without sponging off everyone else. See how happy having no money makes you.0 -
Not much future in that.
depends what you're after, I guess.
Some people value their own time and freedom over money.
You'd have no boss telling you what to do, have a lie-in when you want, sunbathe in the summer etc etc. That's how it is for a number of people i'm friends with, anyway....0 -

But they don't just *think* it's a choice. It IS a choice!marybelle01 wrote: »If you aren't happy working and would prefer to be unemployed then fine. That's your choice. But do it without sponging off everyone else. See how happy having no money makes you.
Obviously though, anyone who doesn't work will claim the benefits that the government says they are entitled too. Would be madness not too. So 'seeing how happy having no money make makes you' wouldn't be a factor.0 -
Depends on what you think a bad job is, for me having to wear a shirt and tie everyday is my idea of a bad job..I am more miserable being unemployed than i was ever in employment.0
