Cerebral palsy and PIP mobility

I am concerned about the new pip payment a losing my motability vehicle.!
I know I'm going to qualify for the enhanced rate in the daily living side but I am unsure if I will qualify for the mobility component as they seem to be taking into consideration mental disability rather than physical.!
I suffer from cerebralpalsy on my right hand side of my body ( basically I am partially paralysed with limited ability and have very weak muscles ). I use a wheelchair a few days a year but when I do I cannot turn the wheels due to my disability so my partner pushes me, I can't use crutches due to strain to my good side and balance and only use a stick for short distances.!
I don't know if I should get another motability vehicle or an old banger as a run around. My car is my lifeline and my blue badge. I have a low paid job as i have to be picky with wht i can do for obvious reasons and the car means more independence. 5/7 days I ache and require physio everyday. I can grip a steering wheel due to. Grip but can barely walk 50 metres without pain.!
Can anyone advise where they think I stand.!
Kind regards.!

Don't forget that the final details regarding PIP have not yet been decided and are still out for consultation, so it is difficult to say anything for certain.
I would urge anyone who has any interest in this to respond to the consultation. The details are here

Basic answer who knows? I've heard figures stating 500,000 to lose their mobility cars when PIP starts. I'm like you and countless others in complete limbo regarding what'll happen. One's thing for sure Cameron and Duncan Smith won't lose any sleep over our plight.
Migration from DLA is due to start in 2013 and take up to 3 years to complete.0 -
It's stupid. I've actually been awake at night worrying about how I will afford to buy a car. Surely they Wong be able to just take thr cars off of ppl like what they do now adays if someone fault a tribunal.
I am disabled and always will be. I don't claim I have a bad leg then go running or bad back and go to the gym every day. I AM PARALYSED AND IF THEY WANNA TAKE MY CAR THEN FINE BUT TAKE MY DISABILITY AS WELL. makes me sick.0 -
My OH's motability car is due for renewal in August and we're just going to go ahead with it and see what happens. As the others have said all the details aren't clear yet and we're all left in limbo, we know it's going to happen we just don't know when or how!
I'm sick to death of worrying about all the changes, IB to ESA and now DLA to PIP, we're just going to wait and see and deal with it when it happens. My OH is an amputee, he can walk with a prosthetic leg but not far and always with pain (problems with the stump), sometimes he can't wear his leg at all and has to use his wheelchair. Originally he could push himself but now he's got no use of his left hand so I have to push him. I've read about the different thresholds and descriptors for PIP but to be honest I really don't understand them and I'm not sure how it will effect my OH.Dum Spiro Spero0 -
I appreciate how you feel, I haven't the same disability as you. I received a form reference the Right Payment Programme a few weeks back, still waiting to hear back. I've been having exactly the same worries as you have with PIP. Being disabled makes you this Governments biggest enemy it would seem.0

Are you seriously suggesting that the Government will sit up and take notice of what people say? If they did that there would be no point in bringing out PIP as everybody would want to keep what they currently have!
As for the Government actually taking notice of the public - they don't even take notice of the House of Lords decisions - they just reverse them if they don't like what has been voted for!
Absolute waste of time putting pen to paper!!0 -

Of course this is also going to have a knock-on effect with the car business, Motability is the largest fleet buyer in the UK with about 575,000 cars. That's a lot of business for car dealers to lose, I can see jobs being lost.Dum Spiro Spero0 -
I think that ,yes they should review people's benefits, but why the need to review people that have a life long brain related disability like mine? It seems silly. I won't be able to take a tablet nd it go away nor will I wake up and feel better all of a sudden.
I am basically gonna be like this and if not worse for the rest of my life :-( hurts every time I say that but it's the way it is.0 -
There has been so much media hype about people who have received benefits for years without review that the knee-jerk reaction has been to ensure that everyone is subject to regular checks. I don't know how much this will cost versus money saved...0
