I agree. Now is the time for a major double-bluff on your friend's part. She just needs to tell the landlord that she does not want him to be out of pocket, so she will stay until August.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
  • Reading this, I'd be minded as your friend to say that I DEFINITELY don't agree to leave at the end of April, as I'm unable to find accomodation for the exact date the landlord has chosen with no basis in actual law. I am able to move out on x-date, should he wish to gain possession of the house. However, the only date for me to move into this house/flat/whatever is on x-date, and as I do not wish to pay two lots of rent, unless the LL refuses to allow me to leave by x-date, I will not be taking up that offer of accommodation, and will expend no more energy trying to find other housing for the Landlord's benefit (particularly as this involves fees being paid), as I am actually entitled to stay until the end of August.

In summary- I agree to move out on x-date, if written permission is sent to me, otherwise I shall be staying until y-date in August.
    If it rains, it rains.
We'll be in the street, looking thunder in the face,
Singing la la la la la,
    I wont change
