Hi, this topic has possibly been covered before, but short of trawling through 2000+ pages...! We have returned this morning from LV, but last week when we arrived at the airport at 7am for 9.55am flight, we were informed our flight was delayed until 16.15 due to technical problems in US delaying the flight setting off from there. We were given a voucher to have a breakfast in Manchester airport. When we came out of the restaurant, the flight was showing as being delayed until 17.45, then later till 18.05. we finally got off about 18.15, but as we were connecting in Philadelphia, we couldn't get an onward flight until sunday morning. We were put up in a hotel for the night and given a $10 meal voucher. Meanwhile, we missed St. Pats night in LV, a night in our hotel and a days car hire that we had paid for. Can anyone tell me if we are entitled to monetary compensation for this and, if so, how do I go about claiming? Thanks in advance for any information.

Quite possibly, yes...........
I don't see why you need to trawl through 2000+ pages, the forum search facility is rather useful or you could start by clicking on the Flight Delay info on the bar towards the top of this page0 -

The sooner that kiddies learn that 'Sh*t happens' the sooner they will understand what life has in store for them.
Perhaps the OP would prefer the airline to have a technical problem at 39,000 feet!0 -
Thank you, I have used the "flight delay" link at the top of the page, but I was asking for clarification. I am in the process of trawling through (76) pages of postings relating to flight delays.
You could try working backwards about 5 pages from the last page of the thread in question which would probably answer your question as Ian41 has provided some good information a number of occasions to questions related to delay compensation.
The most relevant aspect is that there is a legal stay on claims in Eng/Wales currently until the outcome of a challenge to the Sturgeon judgement. That challenge is likely to be resolved sometime before September this year and in the likely event the ECJ rule in favour of passengers, then you have 6 years from the delay you suffered to be brought before the small claims court. You can of course put the airline on notice that you may be bringing a claim for delay compensation subject to the caveat above.0 -
Was it a package holiday from a tour operator?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Thanks to everyone for responding. We booked flights only with US airways.0

I would think this would be as good a starting point as any:
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/flight-delays
which mentions the stay referenced above by Centipede100.
Normally these compensation posts annoy me, but I can see being frustrated in these circumstances...especially as it's Vegas, missing a night in Vegas would well and truly irk me...and especially as you actually lost a night's hotel stay and a day's hire car...
I'm still annoyed by the use of 'compo' though...Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Try www.flightmole.com which is a special forum for compensation for delayed/cancelled flights.
A lengthy delay can qualify for compensation the same as a cancellation, however it is more complicated to convince the airlines of this as the EU legislation in its original form does not allow for this... it is test cases since that do.0
