Thanks to everyone for responding. We booked flights only with US airways.

rich987652 had a recent experience with US Airways which you might wish to read. It starts here:

Meanwhile, we missed St. Pats night in LV, a night in our hotel and a days car hire that we had paid for. Can anyone tell me if we are entitled to monetary compensation for this

Centipede100 has answered your point re compensation for delay. Separately, you are not due and will not receive any compensation for a lost hotel night, lost day's car hire or missing St Pat's night in LV. But you could try writing to US Airways and they might offer a future travel voucher.

As bagand96 has informed you there are other success stories to read about on www.flightmole.com. In reality, and according to the owner of that site, it is no longer a discussion or help forum although it has very useful tips and information in addition to some very interesting threads on past successes

A very similar thing happened to me a few years ago with a delay on a return to UK flight with American Airlines (I was delayed for 1 night and they did offer the hotel + $10 food voucher).

The staff I encountered at the time were awful and would not listen to my complaint so I wrote a letter afterwards and experienced the wonderful thing they call American customer service.

They offered me 2 $300 flight vouchers which I was not expecting! (To be honest I don't think it deserved compensation of $300!)

    I would definately complain.
