BT Broadband usage

In the past few months, we have received startling e-mails advising that we have exceeded usage and an additional charge will apply. We telephoned on various occasions to enquire why we are receiving these emails every month regardless of our light use of broadband.
Last month an additional £25 has beed applied to our bill in addition to our contractual monthly tariff of £26 for line rental and broadband. Usage wise, only my husband and I use the service. One of us works away from home during weekdays and only returns to the property at weekends. The other one works 8am – 6pm on weekdays and rarely has time to use the internet during weekdays. We have contacted bt, this bill has been reduced by £15 but we are perplexed at the charges as even when we are not home, it records usage. We know that service is not illegally used by any one else.
Quite frankly, we have found it very difficult and distressing receiving this e-mails every month which always cause worry and anxiety about our bills and our monthly financial plans. I should add that we are very light users of the broadband and do not download music or movies. We are disappointed that we are being subject to this treatment every month from BT, we would also like to believe it is not a coercion measure to push us into upgrading to a higher tariff which we are certain is not required in our circumstance. Our 10GB monthly allowance should be more than sufficient for our basic requirements which we mainly use for checking emails, making reservations and the occasional networking website.
In addition, we have been BT customers for 3 years and these over the limit emails began in the last year.

Is your wireless router secure?
Do you use the BBC iplayer or does anyone in the family play on line games? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
The wireless router is secure. We haven't used BBc iplayer in the last month and don't play online games. And even when we use iplayer it is very minimal.0

You need to collect some evidence, try downloading something like netmeter to record your usage. You'll need a copy on each PC mind.
