I have never know an address to show next to a credit search
I never said "next to a credit search". Both Equifax and Experian have a "useful addresses" section populated by the addresses of organisations which have performed searches showing in the report. This is not a new feature, having been present for "years".
Later Edit. Not present in my latest Equifax report:( but definately present in Experian:)0 -

You actually said "I strongly advise writing to the "searcher" directly at the address provided in the Credit Report. The addresses are not provided in the credit report.
You did not say anything about checking useful addresses available on the website. Now you have said checking the "useful addresses" it makes it alot clearer.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

I amended my post slightly 2 minutes after your post without seeing your post.
I strongly advise writing to the "searcher" directly at the address provided in the Experian Credit Report. Happy?
My reference to Useful Address - in the Experian credit report - is 100% accurate. For the avoidance of doubt I am now aware that there are no "useful addresses" section in my most recent Equifax credit report.
You may conclude from that that generally I use Experian, as did the OP, so the OP will have a Useful Addresses section in his Experian Credit Report.0 -

Just to clarify the address would NOT show on the applicants ACTUCAL Experian credit report unless the account was actually open and was reporting unless the applicant has other active accounts with Barclays.
Otherwise the OP would have to source the address from Experians "Useful Addresses" on there website.
The addresses shown on the credit report will only relate to active/settled accounts showing on your report. It will not include addresses of lenders who have conducted a search where the application is incomplete/pending or has been unsuccessful.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
The useful address does not show Barclays, probably because I don't have an account with them yet.
I will be calling them Monday morning and ask them to remove the additional search. Hopefully, they will see the error and remove it. Else I will be making a formal complaint to Barclays and the ICO.
Will keep this thread updated. Thanks so much for all the helpful suggestions0 -
Update:
Called up Experian and they are contacting Barclays on my behalf.
Called up Barclays and they flat out refused to even acknowledge my issue.
The guy said since Barclays does not own Experian, they cannot remove the search lol. Did not take my details, didn't ask any questions and just said there was nothing Barclays can do since Experian is an independent company and will not listen to Barclays.
The number I called is the New Accounts team, since I don't have my account details yet - 084560184300 -

My advice that the address was on the credit report was premature, duff even:), but why did you not write to the address helpfully provided by stclair?
This is not so much a case of "Barclays" refusing, but getting through to the wrong person who lacked the competence (and the customer service skills) to help.
Experian should have advised a timeframe which you now need to allow pass. I do not anticipate any problems, this is an easy to address issue, but should Barclays decline simply raise a formal complaint with Barclays - in writing or by email - strictly in accordance with the Barclays complaints procedure.0 -

3 times I've suggested you go straight to formal complaint mode.
Post 9 even gives you some additional 'ammo' to strengthen your case.
Why have you chosen to deal with the frontline staff who, clearly from...The guy said since Barclays does not own Experian, they cannot remove the search lol. As it is now you're no further forward. Whereas had you gone the formal complaint route you'd now just be sitting out the max 8 weeks to resolution.
And not only that, you'd be helping others who will no doubt suffer in future because the FOS/ICO don't know Barclays are still 'at it' so can't get involved!0 -
@jalexa and YorkshireBoy
I was just hoping for a quick resolution without the need to go down the formal complaint route. But you're correct and I should have done it.
I will lodge a formal complaint with Barclays as soon as I get my sort code and account number since the complaint page also asks for:
Your account number and sort code (for confidentiality reasons, only send your sort code in an email)
Or should I complain to the ICO directly ?0 -
For one extra credit search on your file is it worth all the hassle to have it removed especially of its gone in 12 months, I am led to believe that 2 credit searches will have the same effect as just having 1.
I suppose if your applying for credit within the next 6 months then it's a different story.0
