they look like the sort of new buld flats that appeared all over around that time

probably a lot of private rentals, thin walls, not great build quality, i'm 95% certain there wont be gas heating at all, probably a few idiots in the block, not so much parking and generally not a great place to live. there probably is a management company in place but talking to the walls would make more sense.

Hence the "(I know not much information but not sure what else I could add to help figure out what these problems could be!)" on the end.... as I am sure "lease problems" isn't exactly a unique thing for this block of flats, so I thought I'd ask what possible problems there could be.

Less sarcasm, more suggestions. Or just don't post.

I was sarcastic beacause quite frankly, it's a ridiculous question. A lease has hundreds of clauses and conditions. But you expect random strangers to tell you what problem it's likely to be. Plus all the other things it can be.

You might have well asked "my car doesn't work, I've no idea what's wrong with it, but please tell me how to fix it" or "how many people on the No. 8 Bus on monday morning will be wearing a blue shirt".

It would be more appropriate for you to find out what the problem is then come on here to find a solutiion and advice.

Thats why I'm being sarcastic. Ita a public access forum, so if you can't take the rough with the smooth, don't post.

I thought it was a fair question. If you're a green FTB and someone is trying to hide leasehold problems, it doesn't hurt to be armed with some general knowledge to tease out what is really happening.

    UPDATE

OK so a week update as promised.

I have spoken to the EA and they have said the Deed of Variation is being edited because there is "something wrong with the wording".

Currently the service charge is £180 a month (!!!!!!) and they do not know how much ground rent is. But this could obviously this could change with the change in the DoV.

It is currently with the freeholder and their solicitors. But the EA is going to keep me updated.

You really need to find out what the deed of variation is to change. It could affect whether you want too buy or the lenders valuation or willingness to lend.

Service charge at £180.00 is not great but I have heard of much higher and lower. One of the major things that inflates costs is if there is a lift.

What you do know now is that there is a management company and they haven't disappeared as they are collecting money and hopefully maintaining the
    block.
