Worcester boiler 24ijunior problem

Hi guys,

First time on this forum and hope I'm in the right place. We have a 3 year old Worcester boiler but have encountered problems today. Bear in mind that don't have any knowledge about boilers.

There is gauge with a black and red dial. If I remember correctly the engineer told me that I need to top up the water so that the black dial won't go below the red one. I have done that and the pressure has still gone done below the minimum set on the red dial in fact it's near zero level and the warning or test button keep flashing red. I have reset it and still after topping up water is down below minimum and warning light comes on.

What elese can I do? need some advise please. thanks in advance.

The problem continues so I rang an engineer who would be able to see not until tomorrow morning. Now we don't have any heating and hot water. It's been very difficult specially having small children.

My worst fear is that if there's a burst pipe as there was a leak from one of the radiators from downstairs could be hit by a huge bill.

Did you find out what the problem was? My Worcester boiler also keeps losing pressure but I did find a leak in a pipe under the sink so I've fixed that. However it's still losing pressure although not as quickly.

How much did you end up paying?

Worcester boilers do lose pressure when in use which is generally through the winter. On top is a pressure release valve (Leave it alone it's a safety feature.) which although you don't notice when the pressure builds up inside the boiler it slowly releases some steam. We've had a Worcester boiler since 1998 and although I've never seen the steam released I do have to top the system up more frequently in the winter. Also don't forget you've got to be topping up the system at the same time that you're bleeding the radiators.

I had a similar problem with our Worcester boiler. Originally, the pilot light would refuse to light and that was the reason for calling out their engineers. However, I had noticed that the boiler was also losing water, so I mentioned this to them.
When they guy looked at it, he said that the expansion tank had failed, so every time the central heating was on, the expansion tank wasn't doing it's job, and the heated water was going through the overflow pipe. This was the reason for having to top it up.
Since then, I haven't touched the top up thingy (6 mths now).
    Hope this helps.
