I've used several types, this design I've found best for bottles, it will do jars but needs a bit more strength than I have some days. These rubber domes provide an easier option for jars.
Though the best tactic I've found for unopened jars is to sharply rap the rim of the lid on the worktop.
There are some battery powered jar openers on the market, but as yet I've no direct experience of them.0 -
I bought one for my mum, it is metal and has assorted jaw sizes. The link by nuatha has the thing
Think I got it from Robert Dyas, or maybe Wilkinson's
It worked so well I bought one for myself
I find it best to hold bottle / jar in a tea towel, gives a bit more grip whilst other hand is unscrewing top. Also a bit safer, just in case the glass shattersEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
would this open for example, water bottles please0

I've had this type before and they're very good

I bought an excellent opener from Lakeland a few years back, it fixes underneath a cupboard or shelf and all you have to do is slide the jar or bottle in and twist, it's great for someone like my OH who only has use of one hand.
Edit: it's one of these but I think I only paid about £5 for ours.

I have one of these...
Boa strap wrench
Fits everything and you don't have to "squeeze" to keep the grip. The grip automatically self tightens - you only need to grip tight enough to stop the strap from slipping, so really good for weak hands.
There are also "ring pullers" available...

A strap wrench is a good idea and you would be able to pick one quite cheaply at a motor/hardware/DIY place.
I use a rubber glove for grip, tap jars on the worktop and for bottles of water etc I use a nutcracker - metal, one hinge, 2 "legs", useless for nuts but good for bottle tops."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
My sis-in-law bought me one from her 'pound shop ' and its brilliant as my right arm doesn't work very well and the air used to be blue when i was trying to open things One of the worst things to open is those plastic milk bottles I'm sure the tops are put on by strongmen,at one point I was using pliers to open the milk up
Its times like that when I really miss my late OH as he used to open all the tins and bottles for me bless him

You can always visit your local pharmacy, and they can order something suitable for you. I won't lie though, there's no way their prices can beat Poundland

Culinare do a range called 'One Touch' which includes can and bottle openers. They're battery operated and perfect for those of us with weak grips, arthritis etc. Don't opt for the cheap copies, they don't last.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
