I don't want prospective purchasers to google it and find we're struggling to sell - I doubt it gives the best impression.

It wouldn't be difficult for a prospective purchaser to find out how long it's been on the market

It is detached, has two front doors and two door numbers and was split into bedsits in the late 60s when it was something of a commune prior to becoming a squat.

So it may be possible to split into 2 houses.

So it is "sellable" in theory...

Theory is very different to practice.

If someone is genuinely looking for 8 bed house in S. Manchester, then they won't have much choice and would probably realise these aren't easy to sell.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

What price bracket are you talking about? An 8 bedroom house in Longsight could be £150,000, the same in Bowdon could be £5m, both could be classed as South Manchester and selling the 2 properties would require totally different marketing techniques.

I appreciate that - I meant in terms of there being people interested, and three sets of buyers wanting it for different reasons, rather than issues with the house etc... but I take your point.

The council class Longsight as Central Manchster & I think you'd be very hard pushed to find a 8 bed house for 150k even in Longsight!

However I agree, depending on area you really do need vastly different marketing technigues. Are they any similar properties for sale in your immediate area and does there seem to be a particular estate agent that dominates the sales?
If my posts have random wrong words, please blame the damn autocorrect not me :D
  • I don't know the area but would it be easier to sell as two 4-bed properties rather than 1 8-bed - obviously if the house layout lends itself to an easy conversion.

How much would it cost to convert into two four beds?

Your mum could sell one and live in t'other, perhaps?
