I am being seduced by Quentin Wilson

Hi all,

I am thinking about taking out an extended warranty with my next car purchase. Warrantywise, with Quentin Wilson, have a massive marketing campaign and give lots of information on their site about what makes them different.

Does anybody have experience of using them, or their competitors? Is it better to go without and just budget for repairs?

Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers.

I was tempted to go with them but there seemed to be so many caveats and exclusions in the small print, despite Quentin Wilson assurances to the contrary, that I decided to bank the money instead.

A magical product that if you pour it into the oil filler of a knackered engine it will totally restore it . Wonderful stuff.

Not worth the paper they are printed on. This goes for all these types of warranties.

Could be wrong but I looked at this a couple of years ago and Quintens company just sent you over to warranty direct.

In the end I took a policy out with them direct and in my case it was worth the money as paid out on an air con compressor and a faulty CPU.

Have recently taken another one out for the wife and initial quote was £400 a year. I ignored that and sure enough a couple of days later I got a call offering an improved deal.

The deal for their top level all singing all dancing (main dealer) cover is £600 for 3 years (well 3 years and 3 months) as they will reset the cover when the dealer 3 month warranty expires.

Appreciate some will say that I could save the £600 and spend it on whatever goes wrong but cars are expensive, complicated, and when they go wrong I need them fixed fast.

I am not a fan of warranties however for cars and showers (where the item is critical in our house) I consider taking them.

That's not bad. They quoted me over £1600 for my car for three years... and it still isn't as good as the manufacturer's warranty.

Ametech Restore, LOL thats a blast from the past.

Silver or lead particles or something? Supposed to coat and fill scratches and worn surfaces.

Car Mechanics mag did a test, The follow up didnt happen, The test car had the oil pump seize, My BIL used some and the same happened to him.

A few years ago it started appearing on ebay, Claimed to be the 1st time it was being sold in the UK.
Just looked they still seem to be selling it.

If your going to scrap the car then why not eh. Dont put it into anything you dont want to scrap.

I am really confused about these extended warranties..I have got a friend who seems to be very lucky with Warranty direct..they have already paid over £1000 in repairs for his car last year (on 2 claims) and now they agreed to pay £1400 for a claim on his wife's car..I was with them few years ago and after paying for 4 months I made a claim and they refused to pay so I cancelled policy.
I just bought a car and bought an extended warranty to start after the end of manuf. warranty...i discovered after i paid for it that it is with car care plan (thought it was manuf. plan)..I hope they will be alright if i needed to claim

Is that the QW that was done for "Clocking" cars in his younger days?
