EGG Card Rejection

Hi All
Wondering if anyone has had a similar rejection by EGG Cards?
Got a letter today saying they are not upholding my complaint as I purchased it online and their online sales process:
- does not require you to take PPI as a condition of obtaining the card
- Does not require an advisory service
- Required me to positively confirm that I wished to purchase this policy during the online app
- provided full t&c's of the policy and requested I read them before submitting.
My complaint has now been closed. Has anyone else had this "Dear John" before?
What annoys me is my letter stated a few reasons for the missell, one of them being it was front loaded and another that at the time of the application I had been diagnosed with a chronic back illness (which I still have) and that should I have needed to claim on the PPI through this illness I would not have been covered as it is "back pain".
As for my recollection of the online application, it was done in October 2003, long time ago, I cannot remember if there was a check box already checked where it asked did I want PPI.
Would appreciate some feedback if you could guys, I don't think they are being fair.
Many thanks
Gary

Front loading doesnt apply to credit card PPI. Only loan PPI and a small number of mortgage PPI plans.
Your back pain is almost certainly insufficient to void the coverage in other areas and therefore not enough by itself to invalidate the policy. Only things related to it would be refused on a claim. A pre-existing condition that significantly impacts on the ability to claim on the policy is what matters. As for my recollection of the online application, it was done in October 2003, long time ago, I cannot remember if there was a check box already checked where it asked did I want PPI.
They are saying in their response that you needed to "positively confirm" you wanted it and that means you had to select the option. Not that it was pre-selected for you.
Your back pain complaint and the front loading complaint are easy rejections and quite right. If they are correct in saying you selected it and it was not pre-selected then you have no grounds for complaint. You bought it by choice in that case. If they are wrong and it was pre-selected then the FOS dont like those.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Hi there and many thanks for your comments, really appreciated.
I suppose there is really no way then that I can prove it was pre-selected? That is unless other posters from their recollection of EGG around that time can recall if the PPI element was already pre-selected??

Hi There .
In a very similiar suitation with egg .
Had a credit card that had PPI added .
The card was taken out in 2002 so don't have any of the paper work requested this from egg but again due to the account being closed said no can do.
Currently looking into when it became legal for companies to use pre ticked boxes .As far as i can find out companies needed to send out hard copies that need to be signed and returned prior to 2005 .If anyone has further info would live to hear it .

Hello everyone!
This is my first time posting, although I regularly read the forums for advice!
I would appreciate any advice on my old Egg credit card please?
I opened an Egg credit card in 2006 as an online account, I transferred the balance in 2009 and closed the account. Since then Egg credit cards have been taken over by Barclaycard who don't have any of my details as the account closed before they took over. I am fairly sure I had PPI on this card that I didn't want at the time, but didn't know how to get rid of it! As Egg no longer deal with the credit cards, and Barclays have no record of me, how do I go about getting some details about this account? As it was an online account I was never sent paper statements, I had to log-in online when my statement was ready, but my old login details now no longer work, and I don't know where I would find an account number as everything done online. Barclays gave me an address to write to, but are they likely to give me any details as I'm not even sure I had PPI!
Any guidance would be very appreciated!

Similar situation here I also took an egg cc in 2003 via the online process and dont recall asking for it or if box was pre ticked, I also had a pre existing back condtition and have given other reasons for my claim that my employer would pay me 1 years sick pay, that I had other ways of making repayments iff necessary, I only noticed I had ppi 3 years ago when my card was maxed out and checked to see why my bill was so high, I cancelled it immidiatly. I've just had a leyyer from barclaycard asking for more time to look into my claim, so well see what happens. I did find a post on here someone in the same psotion claim rejected asked for evidence to show they ticked the box when they got copy were box was it had for internal use only, so they questioned this and eventually got there claim uphelp, unfortunatly I cannot copy and paste the link for you to see, but I just googled dates of egg online applications pre ticked ppi box, and thats how I found it....0

It was July 2007 when the practice of pre ticked boxes was stopped, im some case you had to umtick the ppu box to opt out rather that the other way round, not sure how you would go abot finding oit if yours was the opt out method other than to write to them requesting proof....0
