Just spoke to the dealership, they know the history of the car extremely well. Apparantley it has actually only had 2 private keepers, the reason it is showing 4 is because the DVLA added an owner when the private plate was removed from it and then when it was transferred from another dealership in the country they added another owner.

    Final thoughts on this.....

    Sounds plausible.

But then salesmen tell you what will seal the deal. Maybe they can provide evidence of this.
  • Wouldn't worry me as the car is coming Toyota approved used and covered by a guarantee every bit as good as the new car cover..

Toyota are launching if they haven't already their own extended used warranty, you will be able to pre purchase up to 5 years full used car warranty up to 150k miles....this is not aftermarket bog roll but Toyotas own warranty...might be worth asking the selling dealer if you can purchase the extra years once the system is up and running.

    Nice car, enjoy.

I'm going to go ahead with it. Thanks for all your advice. The car has all the extras on it Sat nav, parking sensors, dusk sensing headlights, rain sensing wipers, cruise control as would be expected with the sales director owning it. Just the number plate change has distorted the real number of keepers on the log book but I like the car and it is backed up by Toyota approved scheme.

I have run a few text checks and what I've been told seems accurate so I've probably worried over nothing.

    Thanks again.

That would probably put me off........

Salesmen at main dealers get company cars, generally they pick from a pool of vehicles owned by the dealership. These are then run until a certain mileage and then sold on as used cars.

This effectively means it was used as a runaround for the entire dealership and from what I've seen, may have been thrashed about a fair bit.

I know someone who works for not just a dealership, but a Toyota dealership and I know this to be true.

Every man and his dog wouldn't be running round in the sales directors personal plated car, i'll hazard a bet it was the head honcho's wifes car, too small for the boss man.

Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. They can tell you anything, you can't prove it and it really makes no odds.

The only owner you'll know for sure was the latest, so as already suggested, get those details off the log-book, see how long they owned it, and if not long contact them to see why they decided to get rid of it again.

Unless you get sight of the V5, DO NOT BELIEVE THAT!

I once purchased a car that I'd been told by the sales bullsh***** as having had 'one elderly owner', that owner turned out to be called 'Mr Skoda UK of Milton Keynes' and was the biggest lemon I'd ever driven.

On the flip side, we had a 530d in the family that was bought at (iirc) 3 years old - had been run by one of the senior dealership staff, was incredibly well specced for its year and ran flawlessly for another 4 years and 120k before being moved on.

As already said if it's covered by the extended toyota warranty I wouldn't worry too much.
