I very much doubt that. This government has done some nasty things regarding the state pension raising the retirement age but there would be complete outrage if this was implemented.
My situation is similar to the OP's as I have savings but already have 30 years on NI contribuitions for state pension.
As a previous poster has stated, you only need 30 years of your working life to make full NI contributions for a state pension.
d
I am well aware of that - I've been working in the pensions industry for the last 25+ years and I've seen a huge number of changes over the years. Used to be 44 years for a man and 39 for a woman not that long ago.
With longevity increasing and hints already that the state pension age is to be reassessed back still further would you want to bet that 30 years contributions will still apply in the future?
I wouldn't. Be very easy to bring the level back up again for younger ages.
The OPs situation may change - if he decides to live abroad he may not have the opportunity to make up these missing years - or if he can would have to pay for them.0 -

They probably wouldn't but it would only take one person to snitch on you to say that you have got savings under the mattress. Then you are done for !!0 -
Insane idea , I actually would prefer not to go into the degrading job centre anyway,
I know you should give respect to get repsect, but I just despise that place.0 -
If ya don't go,
then you wont get ya 'stamp'

You can pay in voluntary contributions to make up the shortfall. You get six years from the end of the tax year for which the contributions are being paid. You can even pay monthly by Direct Debit - there is no need to go to the JobCentre.

BrionaIf I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.0 -
You have two options - first you could go and sign on and they'll pay your credits, but you will have to prove you are looking for work. This is a hassle, even if you are genuinely job hunting.
Second case scenario, you could not worry about your NI credits, providing you do plan on working for 30 years before you retire. Even if you don't work for 30 years you can still top up your credits, and it's up to you whether you would be concerned about having your full pension as it's not a massive amount, some people have private pensions and the state pension is a side amount.
If I were 22 providing I wanted to get a job at some point I wouldn't worry about my NI contributions, in fact I don't think aged 22 I had done paid work, I left school and went straight into work experience in various companies before I got a paid job.0 -

Why ?
Just walk in, get signed on and walk back out, simple as that.
Yes its not nice but im glad i applied for jsa rather than not applying for it as it got me out of the house even for an hour plus i wouldnt have done the ITQ.0 -
if they are paying my stamp for me
How do I know in the future they won't want me to pay them back ? Like I am doing for overpayed benefits - which is a different matter altogether.
My point is they cannot be trusted and are not reliable.0 -
