As you say he had lung cancer im assuming you also think he was a smoker. If that was the case he would of certainly paid more than a non smoker with the same condition
We are all paying tax. But smokers pay a lot more
Cancer is one of those things that you don't realise how bad it is until you've experienced it.
I DO have experience, hence my annoyance at your "dig" at smokers. Even non smokers get cancer0 -
I had thought that there was no longer much value in buying cigs and alcohol in europe? Even so, i am fully in favour of smokers rights and they are welcome to blow smoke for as long as they please. Now that smoking in public buildings is banned, they can enjoy a smoke and i can enjoy not suffering it.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

400 benson are only £35 if your flying long haul.0

At least the lung cancer guy had most likely paid more than enough into the nhs to cover his treatment.
Who paid for yours?
Most likely? Is there some evidence that proves everyone suffering lung cancer contributes more to the NHS than those that don't suffer from it?
It's not possible the patient suffering from lung cancer was collecting benefits and the poster has been paying income tax for the last X years?0 -
Cigarettes here in Hurghada, Egypt are 8LE to 15LE (80p to £1.50 for a packet of 20. 8LE (80p) for Viceroy and 12 - 15LE (£1.20 - £1.50) for 20 Marlboro or Rothman etc. If you look like a resident you can get a pack of 20 x 10 for 100LE (£10) If you are really desperate local Cleopatra are 3 - 5LE for 20 (30p - 50p) but taste like camel crap0

of course its possible. Its also possible the person with lung cancer smoked 100 a day for 40 years. at 80% tax thats a hell of a lot of money paid in.0 -

Rough figures:
£3 per carton saved x 160 packets (old guidelines I know) = £480 saved per trip.
It depends where you live/how you would travel for the direct costs and any indirect costs you would incur as to whether it's worth it for you.0 -
Why not just give up smoking, then you'll have all the money you would have spent on cigarettes, you won't have to pay to travel to Europe to make your purchases, you won't stink like an old ashtray, and your health will improve?
And do they stand the chance of becoming as preciously self-righteous as you?
Go light-up and chill please!

No. Smoking is implicated in a whole range of illnesses - only a complete and utter moron focuses on just cancer.
However it is the case that overall, smokers do overpay their hand to the NHS by a very considerable margin.
And the figures have been consistent and accepted since what, the early 1970s!0
