Tobacco Runs

Hi all!
With the new tax coming in on cigarettes it may be cheaper for me to just do a run back and forth every few months to Europe.
I was just wondering currently the best way to do it and if the potential savings are worth the hassle?

Why not just give up smoking, then you'll have all the money you would have spent on cigarettes, you won't have to pay to travel to Europe to make your purchases, you won't stink like an old ashtray, and your health will improve?0

When I was having chemotherapy seven years ago, there was nothing worse than not being able to sleep on the cancer ward because the lung cancer guy's palliative care wasn't working and he kept crying out in the night with pain. Not nice really, something to save yourself from.0

Wacko some easy sums.
How much do you smoke ?
How much are cigarettes in UK?
How much is a Flight / Ferry ?
Travel Insurance ?
Time off work ?
The cash flow to buy enough cigarettes to justify going overseas ?
Your choice to smoke ignore others (non smoker myself).
Do the sums on it and then you will have the answer.
Allowance is about 16 sleeves per person at say £48.00 per sleeve is over £750 .00 + your fare to get there and time off.
Avoid the eastern European countries although cheap cigarettes plenty of Turkish fake ciggies in the system with god know what in them "Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."

Like the previous poster says, it all depends on how much you smoke as to whether it is worth it to you.
I can confirm though that the current price of 200 B&H in Larnaca Airport is 41 euros0 -
I think Luxembourg has cheap cigarettes (and fuel). You could do the P&O ferries deals for £19 which comes with free bottles of wine at times and hot foot it to the border.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

A day trip to Belgium works for us, expect to pay £19-£25 for a car and all passengers for a day trip. Legally there is no limit on what you can bring back, as long as it is for your own personal use. However UK Customs have had a "guideline" of 3,200 cigs and 3 kgs of baccy, these amounts have recently been reduced to 800 cigs and 1kg of baccy. As I said this is a guideline and if the customs can be satisfied the goods are not to be sold on, you should be fine.
As for prices, around £41 for premium brands, B&H etc. £35 for JPS but only 19 in a pack of these, so 5 % dearer. GV baccy is around £4.85 for 50g. It takes about 30-45mins to get to Belgium from Calais, straight down the A16 and off at the 1st exit past the border, no tolls. REAL TOBACCO BELGIUM or DAYTRIPPER for more info0 -

IMO its just an attempt to further harass travellers. The goods are either for you own use (or gifts) or not. Doesn't matter if its 800, 3200 or 10,000. So by lowering an artificial figure HM Customs and Excise can harass more and more people who are legally going about their lawful business.0 -
