Have come across a lot of these but had to post about Worksop! We went to pick up a bulky item from Argos, found the back doors in a car park, bought goods and loaded OK, then tried to find our way back onto the road towards Retford.
First, the only sign in the car park says "No Exit" no indication on how to leave, eventually found the way out behind some shops, T junction with a sign pointing right "All Routes" so turned right and came to a roundabout with signs for places West of Worksop, Retford is East! So we went right round and back down the road we had driven up but at least we were now heading in the right direction!
Then came to a T junction in front of the church but which way to go, NO SIGNS at all to help. Eventually we found our way onto Retford Road, B6040
Have a go, start on Google maps, Argos Worksop and go into the car park beside Bonmarche.

? Its not the signs fault you didnt know where you were going. :D

Can't be as bad as Bristol, I even had the satnav on and it made no sense, Turn right ? Err where?? The road was approx 4 lanes wide and only went straight on.

From what I can remember of Retford the last time I deliverd there, it was hardly innocent of this itself.

Buy a road map or a sat nav.

The centre of Bristol has been extensively redeveloped, and a lot of the new roads aren't on a lot of satnav maps yet. I'm sure that other towns and cities must be the same, though.

My favourite one was totally missing direction signs. For example, you were going from A to C, via B. In the middle of B, the signs vanish, as if B is the only place anyone would want to be. This is one thing that satnav has made a thing of the past.

Well, we don't live in Retford just needed to go in that direction. Just angry that someone can put up a sign saying All Routes when clearly the route I needed was the other way!!!
As for Bristol, I was born there and easily get lost now! Who remembers haring up and down the escalators in the new Lewis's and Jones's to beat the clock???

Diversions, they're the worst by far........

Near to my GF's place, two or three different diversions, didn't have a clue which one to follow, all entrances to the nearby dual carriageway were blocked, I ended up stopping to use my sat nav and then just driving for 15 mins until it picked up a route that avoided the road works, failing that I would have moved the road cones and driven on through, because despite the mess, they weren't actually doing anything to the road.

Glasgow has to be the worst place for navigating your way through.:rotfl:

Last 3 times we've tried to go ROUND it we've somehow ended up driving through the city centre playing spot the drunk. Hopefully they'll finish rebuilding the motorway ring road sometime this century. :p

I'm glad that I'm not the only one to have found Glasgow a nightmare, the roads are terrible too, full of potholes. I once spent ages driving round and round trying to find the way out of Glasgow, late at night later discovered that there had been a murder on the one of the streets I drove on that very evening:eek:
  • Hah, I've had this problem in Worksop too.I don't really know the area very well and didn't want the town centre so followed the "all other routes".It took me off in the wrong direction too but I have a good sense of direction and felt like I was going the wrong way, so just turned around and figured my way around. It is a bit confusing though.

Hey DD yes, luckily the sun was shining and I soon realised that to go East it should be on my right, not left!

I came close to abandoning the car completely in Bristol a few years back (pre satnav days). Trying to get the 10 minute walk from a training place to the hotel took an hour and a half. Everyone I stopped to ask very helpfully informed me it would be really easy if I was walking but they had no idea how to get there driving.
It was like a nightmare version of groundhog day.
